And you just thought our homegrown bulls were ugly

His sire Good question, not sure as I don’t weigh mine live. Here’s my first cross calf butchered last week. 19 month heifer, hung at 557lbs. Mostly grass with a little grain daily since weaning.

These carcasses won’t go through the sale barn

And you just thought our homegrown bulls were ugly

All grass from July through November when he’s at my friends place, then mostly grass with a couple pounds of feed daily at my place the rest of the year. His size comes from his genetics. He’s from a line with good growth.

And you just thought our homegrown bulls were ugly

Here’s his first calf crossed with my belties, heifer, fed to 19 months. Mostly grass with some grain daily since before weaning. Butchered yesterday. Hanging weight of 557. I will be butchering two of his steers in September at 24 months. They are quite a bit larger than this heifer and hope to...

And you just thought our homegrown bulls were ugly

Here’s my boy’s rear end. Not too bad for a Wagyu. Look for good growth genetics.

    My new Wagyu bull

My end goal is really good freezer beef for my family plus a friend or two. I'll be able to compare a full Beltie being butchered in September, to a cross being butchered next spring. I'll agree, they aren't the greatest looking cattle, but this guy has been nothing but a gentleman for me and...

It were a chilly day of feeding.

I’d put up with the cold to have scenery like that! Are those mountains owned by individuals? I’m a flat lander so it’s intriguing to think about owning vertical land.

    For home meat production only-Akaushi?

My calves out of this bull are pushing four months old, and I feel they are bigger than my purebred belted calves were in the past. So hopefully I will get a great carcass at 24 months.

    For home meat production only-Akaushi?

It’s what I’m doing except I’m using black Wagyu. This is my first calf crop crossed with my belties and I’m shooting for a 24 month butcher date. If you get on the Wagyu Facebook page there are some farms that are getting outstanding results butchering at 18 months on F1 crosses. I am creep...
