The snakes winter in the limestone caves and come out in the spring breed and disperse to the surounding area and come back in the fall to wnter underground again. If you are too late in the season all you get to look at is a bunch of empty holes in the ground.

Hope this works. They are non poisonous Red-Sided Garter Snakes. This pic was taken at the Narcisse Snake Dens. It is the largest concentration of snakes in the world. If you ever want to see it in person the best time is the latter part of April and the first three weeks...
I will post some pics of the Narcis Snake Pits tomorrow so stay tuned. It is the largest concentration of snakes in the world, 60,000 to 80,000. they are about 25 miles north of us. One of the most impressive things I have ever seen.

Just came in from bedding down the cows and bulls. Just thought I would let you all know it's -42 with the wind chill. And they talk about global warming. Might need to get a tractor with a cab if this keeps up. Stay warm where ever you are.

What would be considered the norm in the southern US for this time of year?? I know for us we can almost allways count on snow by Halloween and then it stays and gets colder and colder and doesn't warm up till March /April.
the Canucks are smiling we had 10 inches of snow on the 6th of October warmed up since then but the fire hasn't gone out in over a month. Snow only lasted a few days but it was a cruel trick to play on the guys combining and baling
