Mark I know whatcha mean about good hay is hard to find. That's when you buy the best you can get. That still puts your supplement in position to work for you. I watch guys every year go out and buy the cheapest hay and feed roughage tubs, feed, and grain and still lose weight. Its so heart...

Rookie needing advice on feed strategy

Mark as you noticed culls do in fact sell at the sale. To understand why this is you simply answer the question what is a cull? Simplest answer is a cull is a animal cut from a producers herd that didn't meet "their" standards not "the standard". What producer may not want in his herd doesn't...

    More work than it's worth?

I'm hoping to be cutting and bailing hay this year. I'm planning on using a JD 348 w/ a bail ejector. I'm thinking about using an old cotton wagon and putting sides on it to catch the bails. The more I look over this system it sure starting to look alittle more like work. I'm kinda starting to...

    Liming poor pasture

Amen. No matter what they comeout with there will never be anyone thing that'll make the inpact that lime does. Just about every additive and the growing cycle of forage lowers the ph in the soil.

    Is this fair?

Where do you get your potential weight from? That sorta leaves alot of room. I dont know of any F350 rated over 20,000lbs GCW. F450s and up are rated 26,000lbs and under. I reckon I can see someone putting two 10k axels under a 16ft bumberpull, um but, why? You got to have some kind of way of...

HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH FOR HAY ?

I will not pay more than $200 a ton for hay. I'm feeding glutin, cotton seeds, and wheat mids with my hay. So it goes alot further. Glutin is running $26 ton delivered around here. I hauled it myself for $19/ton.

Using Goats for pasture clean up

You are looking in the right direction. If I may I'm going to suggest to you my operation whichs works good for me. I think the way you are talking about doing it is least productive. Dont run the goats with your cattle. If I understand you right you already have cross fences. Run your goats...

    grazing woodland?

I would worry about the green acorns this time of year. I dont let my cows near my oaks untell november. You think spring grass is bad get a load of acorn tannin. Cows can also get tannin poisioning from early oak leaves on small trees. Hardwood stands are'nt good summer grazing. I know there...

    Kill Stickers

I like this idea. I would use a 1% solution though. That would be more like 1 1/3 oz to a gallon. Then coming back next spring with a burn. If you can get it get grazon sprayed on your field. It'll help stop seed from growing.

    wheat hay

I dont know how it effects the quality. The quality is based on the food value; i.e protein, fat etc, etc. I'm not sure how to explain this. Its matter of speaking starting to rot, or ferment. You might have put it up with to much moisture. Is this hay or straw? Just wondering.
