    allison trannies

Mine's a '02 with the 8.1 and the 5 speed Allison. Passes anything but the gas station! Empty, not pulling a trailer, I get about 9 to 9.5mpg. Loaded, pulling either the flatbed loaded with hay, or the cattle trailer loaded, I don't even want to know! Of course the proper application of the...

    Tractor Brands

The first time I walked into the shop at the tractor dealership, and all the tractors split in half were there for hydrostat transmission problems....I got one without it! Scared me!

    single or dually ?

A dually will take all the drama usually associated with pulling a trailer away! Far fewer white knuckle trips!

    add on bucket hay spears

It's hard to see through that bucket, too!

    Grease Guns

Another way to make it easier....short of genetics experiments to grow a third arm.....is to rig up one of your grease guns with the flexible rubber hose, and another one with the metal tube. Since the tube is threaded 1/8" pipe threads, you can use 1/8" pipe and make custom ones to fit your...

Any one mow their yard with....

I used to mow the yard with a cab tractor and a bush hog! From the road, nobody could tell the difference! Since we didn't have little kids out playing in the yard, it really didn't matter to us. As long as I could see the snakes before I got right up on 'em! Finally broke down and bought a...

    vortec 6.0??

I had a 2000 model 2500 4 x 4 long bed extended cab with the 6.0 and the 4L80E in it. Was capable of 13 mpg empty with a tailwind and a light right foot....seldom happened that way! Usually around 10. But it performed dependably for around 200,000 miles before I traded up to a dually with the...

    Flat Tires

On the rears, I generally stay in the 10 - 15 range. To me, just a little flex at the bottom of the rear tires seems to work. Back when I ran the pressures posted on the sidewalls, I had way too many flats. Since then, about one a year. Still a pain in the rear, but tolerable. I will...

    Flat Tires

Around here, (Central Arkansas), the biggest problem for many of us comes from stobs and things from previously cleared brush. Especially if someone cleared it by hand, all those slash cuts on small brush are perfect to puncture a tire. We don't have any mesquite, never even seen any actually...

    Flat Tires

Another way to reduce the number of tractor flats is to run lower air pressures. This allows the tire to flex instead of puncture many times. Added benefit of greater traction. Although nothing stops everything....except foam filling....too darned expensive, plus the rougher ride.

    new holland tractors

I loved my TN65D cab tractor. But as for it's origins....nothing Ford about it. New Holland is Fiat. Sold elsewhere in the world as IVECO. Great equipment if you have a good dealer.....just not Fords.

    Which Chainsaw

I wanted a small saw for clearing fencelines and decided on a small Stihl. I forked over the extra money for the easy start and the toolless chain adjustment. The easy start is a joke. Makes it harder if anything. The tool less chain adjustment is great however. This saw needed about a year...

    Diesel vs. Gas

For a good pulling gas rig, it's gotta be big! I've got an '02 Chevy Dually with the 8.1 and the Allison 5 speed. Totally awesome. Except on gas! I pull a 24' gooseneck cattle trailer fully loaded in hilly Ozark terrain with ease. Just don't expect to get over 10 mpg. I traded a diesel...
