    Tagging ears...

Oh, I think I wonder about that on every calf I spray...esp when I watch the cow lick it off right after I do it. But, I think it's one of those psychological feel good preventive things we just do because its suppose to help?! Oh, well...iodine is one of the few remaining things that is cheap...

    What do you THINK ?

No....because I want the goat!! I have enough cars and trucks.

    Tagging ears...

I've never disinfected the tagger persay, other than keeping it clean, and have never had a single issue... but since I'm carrying the iodine with me anyway to spray the navel...pretty sure it's not going to hurt anything by spraying a little on the punch.

    What state are you from?

WISCONSIN.......where we dont have a senate recount(although I have to hear about it everyday?!), a shady governor, or a real baseball team! I know there is at least one more Wisconsonite on here...SR, where are you...?!?!

    Colostrum

Freezing Colostrum Having a good quantity of frozen colostrum on for emergency situations should be evaluated before calving season begins. The problem is: how do you obtain this colostrum? Many producers obtain colostrum from another farm, but producer should be aware that of the risk of...

    new Heifers caving

First, the afterbirth is fine. It's normal for a cow to take 2-3 days to fully clean themselves. Being you have bedding, a windbreak and a dry place to calve I wouldnt worry about the temp in the 20's too much. Momma will take care of him/her just fine. The main thing is that the calf is able...

    Advice on Castrating- No help

I've always done it by myself when they're a day old. Of course, my cattle allow me to make this a one person job, I'm in contact with them almost everyday and disposition is a priority in my herd. I do band, but have never had any issues doing it. Just have to make sure you get them both and he...

First time getting custom feed milled

This may have been mentioned in "skinny cow" thread, but cant remember....is your hay of decent quality and protein levels?? If so, simply go with a corn and salt/mineral mix. Spending unnecessary money on lime(could be wrong, but think it only serves as a limiter?) molasses has no nutritional...

If you're in the mood to transport it....I have a couple feet of snow on the ground you are more than welcome to have for absolutely no charge!? I'll even throw in a six pack of your favorite lager and a freshly cut 16 oz prime rib if you're in the mood to stay for dinner.

    direct sales?

Just to clarify all the banking items...(I am a banker full time off the farm)...my apologies, dont hate me! :cboy: But dad, was a smart man and made me get a college degree even though I loved to farm! Although, not sure why I chose finance. Banks can and will put a hold on large checks being...

your omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acid ratio

The pristine waters of Northern Wisconsin would have no mercury...the WI DNR tells me so! 8)

your omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acid ratio

Weird...my brother and I were just having this same conversation over Christmas dinner. We discussed in great detail on how we could improve our ratio(which probably isnt bad, but a little high, nonetheless), as the New Year is always a good time for "New Beginnings" and we're expecting our...

EPD's look good.....but, do you have any pictures for any of these bulls?? I surely wouldnt buy a bull just based on numbers.

    Ringworm or ???

Wow...poor guy! We havent seen the actual scabs that the steer has/had...but normally ringworm occurs on the neck and face. Usually is a direct result of lack of sunlight and other than 2% iodine....not alot of treatment options. Back in the day when our Holstein heifers would get it from being...

A steer that doesn't like corn???

True that, true that. Never fails to amaze me every year when I go 'try' to round up my cull cows for the year...they catch on very quickly and suddenly want nothing to do with me! Sorry, didnt mean to get off the subject at hand.

A steer that doesn't like corn???

I'm assuming this is the first time the steer has corn put in front of him? How many days have you been putting the corn in front of him? Just asking because if he's never seen corn before during his lifetime and its only been one or two days...he's still trying to figure what the corn...
