Gelbvieh-Hereford cross bred bull to get to 3 way cross

Thanks for the comment Red Bull....am curious about using a cross-bred bull like this as a terminal sire. We also have a personal preference for red/gold cattle over black. No reason for it just what we've always had.

Gelbvieh-Hereford cross bred bull to get to 3 way cross

Thank you 3way. Point taken about the herf contributions to the calving trouble. Each of the heifers were between 80 to 60% Gelbvieh but I don't have the b/w EPD's on the bull to which they were bred.... -am still considering pb Gelbvieh and would certainly look for one with desired EPD's for...

Gelbvieh-Hereford cross bred bull to get to 3 way cross

Hello all, I've searched the boards and online for quite a while and can't find exactly the info. I'm curious about so am posing this question. We have a small commercial herd with mainly Blonde/Hereford cross cows bred to a pb Hereford bull. I've been considering bringing in a Gelbvieh bull...

    Thought this little guy...

Right TN....we've used a come-along once or twice when short-handed to help but we generally just try let our cows do most of the work....everyone needs a helping hand every once in a while though....

    Thought this little guy...

Thank you Hillsdown...as you say, some heavy hips. Once she was able to clear his head and shoulders we were stuck for a while on the hips. We finally were able to turn him enough to get him out of there....also glad she let us move her so easily into the barn-- pretty muddy around here. :)

    Thought this little guy...

Thanks Farmwriter....was very pleased to get this guy going and couldn't be happier with the heifer. She's a dream to work with, can do anything with her no trouble at all. I think she'll be a fine cow for us

    Thought this little guy...

[/img] [/img] [/img] deserved his two minutes of fame. Came home Thurs. evening and found his momma down, two hooves out and really straining. She is one of three Gelbvieh heifers we brought in this Spring and let me lead her a short way into the barn and into the squeeze...

    Steer "unsheathed" mounting cow

Thanks again to everyone whose helping to share their knowledge. SS, your response seems to follow some other info. I've dug around about this. I found one study (Hafez?) that suggests that erectile capabilities is one of the last sexual functions to remain with a steer after castration. I just...

    Steer "unsheathed" mounting cow

Thanks TN, Yes, I bought them from someone and took them at their word. My mistake obviously. We band our calves and these are too big now for that. I guess I'm separating them for the summer when I had hoped to keep them on grass. Thanks for your post and yes, I guess you can never be sure...

    Steer "unsheathed" mounting cow

Thanks to you both for taking the time to help. Dun, the 'brandishing' of the sword is exactly whats got me worried and a bit cheezed off. It's also strictly a dinner steer with all the physical conformation you might expect. I will not be happy to have a few mongrel, very funnel butted calves...

    Steer "unsheathed" mounting cow

Hello to all, I've found these forums a great resource for some time, but now find myself seeking some direct help. I've searched through the archives but can't find exactly the information I was looking for. We have a small cow calf operation and I recently had a couple of steers brought in...
