To cull, or not to cull.....

She wasn't supposed to be bred as early as she was. She's a little young. About 18 months. A large and mature 18 months, though.

To cull, or not to cull.....

The heifer is penned up and on as much feed and hay as she wants. She doesn't appear to be stressed at all. The calf was starting to go downhill until I started supplementing it.

To cull, or not to cull.....

I have a simangus heifer that just had her first calf. The calf is out of a high percentage simmental bull that has thrown some nice babies in the past. The heifer is one that I have used as a show heifer as some smaller shows and the local and state fair. She's done fairly well, though she's...

    Grooming Chute Plans

Thanks for the input! Being a high school student and having to finance all my own projects, I don't have a whole lot of money to spend. I'm just trying to find the cheapest way to get a hold of one.

    Help please!

The calf never ceased to be a pain ans has been sent to market before he could hurt anyone worse. He was 9, almost 10 months when I bought him. He weighed 660 lbs at first weigh-in, after loosing an estimated 50 lbs running around in the back swamp. That's about what most show steer are like...

    Brangus cross club calves

Thanks. Around here it's not a huge deal to see some ear if you're at a smaller show. At the larger shows, though, it is frowned upon a little bit, simply because it's not "showy". I like the idea of using Brangus, though because of their heat tolerance, ect. You see a lot of Brangus in...

    Brangus cross club calves

What are your thought on using cross breeding to Brangus heifers in a club calf breeding operation? What would be your suggestions as for what to breed to the Brangus? Thanks, Robby

    Show Heifer Options

I feel like heifer #1 is weak in her front end. She looks a like she's built a bit downhill and a little "ewe necked". Both 2 and 3 look to be good options, though. If it were me I think I'd keep #3. Although she isn't as feminine as the others, all the important stuff is there. Though not...

    Help please!

Thanks for all the advice! We have him tied with a heifer in the pen with him. I'm bringing him feed and water everyday, and brush him, using a broom to begin with and slowly moving closer. He's starting to come along.

    Help please!

grey beard, Your right. Everything possible was thrown at him at once. I found him holed up deep in a swamp. We got him out of there late yesterday evening and moved him to a smaller pasture with about 30 head in it. We penned all the cows today and got him sorted out like it was nothing. He...

    Help please!

Well, we went out again after looking for hours already, and sure enough, he just pops up out of nowhere. We were able to get him into a smaller pasture with a bunch of 20 or 30. We're going to try to get him penned tomorrow afternoon.

    Help please!

He's angus cross. He was not weaned, they had just got done sorting when I picked him up. The calf is now long gone. We went to pen him and he is nowhere to be found.

    Help please!

Thanks for the advice! TennesseeTuxedo, as soon as we got that first calf back on the trailer we took him back to the breeder. Unfortunately, when we went to pen it earlier it was nowhere to be found. That calf is somewhere down our road.

    Help please!

I just got a show steer that was just pulled out of pasture and away from him mom yesterday. He was also worked much harder than was needed, doing nothing but rile him up. After trailering him home, I got him tied up to a good sturdy post. When I went out early this morning to give him feed and...
