    Distillers syrup... backgrounding steers

Don't quote me on this but I think there is a difference in syrup coming out of a whiskey distillery vs ethanol plant. I believe the sulfur is way lower in whiskey syrup.. maybe I dreamed that.

    Distillers syrup... backgrounding steers

Semi load of 600 pound bulls that I haven't had but for a couple weeks. yes, so far I like it, once they got to eating a decent amount of it. What I like best is the fact of them having "feed" in front of them all the time. I've never had bawling/just weaner calves in this good flesh at this...

    Distillers syrup... backgrounding steers

I believe so, after a little while the calves started eating more and more of it. When they finally ate all that was in front of them I took a couple totes and bought some fresh that was still hot from the distillery. They are eating a lot more of it now. I'm assuming about 2 gallons per head...

    Distillers syrup... backgrounding steers

I took a sample of it to a friend that feeds it to get his thoughts. He said it should be good to go. He told me to give them some more time or borrow his mixer and mix wheat hay with the syrup, we will see how this goes.

    Distillers syrup... backgrounding steers

I've thought about that as well.. mine still smells like it did when I got it, but I may have to find someone local who has more experience with it to tell me if it's spoiled or not.

    Distillers syrup... backgrounding steers

Yes, I've just got it out in a 150 gallon water tank.. I take a stick and agitate it every time I'm out there. I figured by now they would be more than taken off on it

    Distillers syrup... backgrounding steers

Bought a couple totes of distillers syrup from a friend to feed to about 20 newly acquired 600 pound steers. They have free choice hay, free choice syrup, and hand fed twice a day. Right off the truck last Monday night they ran right to the syrup tank and started licking. The rest of the week...

Needing a cattle buyer around Kentucky

I raise lightweight feeder cattle, mostly steers, I typically sell groups around 30 head at roughly 450 pounds every month. Typically they are weaned 3 months and have had 2 rounds of vaccines. Looking for a steady buyer for these calves off the farm.. Anyone know of buyers around central ky?

    Feeder cattle castration setback

Do cattle that run through the sale ring banded sell as bull or steer calves if the bag has not yet fell off? Kind of a newbie question but never sold any calves that were recently banded.

    Feeder cattle castration setback

I've had this group for about a month and a half and are on about 5-6 pounds of feed per head per day and good pasture. Seem to be growing well. if I can keep them growing a little through the healing process I fell like I will definitely be money ahead.. about 150 dollars difference between...

    Feeder cattle castration setback

I currently am buying groups of 250 pound bull/steer calves and feeding them to 425-450 pounds. I am wanting to cut the Bulls to sell larger groups of all steers. My question is how bad weight wise will it set the calves back. In the short time frame I keep the calves I've heard different...

    Creep Feed Ration

Yes, typically most people refer to it as creep feeding around here, wether on or off the cow. No big deal. What is the most important factor I need to look into as far as feed? Protein percentage, fat, ingredients? Trying to cut out a lot of trial and error, may just have to look at purchase...

    Creep Feed Ration

Sounds like good gains! I just got started raising cattle last year, Ive got these feeders and about 10 heifers I'm going to put a bull in with around mid June. I've got more grass than money to buy the cattle to graze it all at this point. I think I've found a good niche with these feather...

    Creep Feed Ration

The feed definitely has a good amount of corn in it. The way I have it figured the calves are eating roughly 9 to 9.5 pounds per head per day of feed. Think that is too much for those little calves? Thanks for the reply
