    2 days no water

Where do you get bulk mineral oil? All I found are 1 gallon jugs at TSC for over $15. I did buy one of those to put on the face bullet on the mineral barrel, but would go broke spraying it everywhere.

    2 days no water

All still alive this morning and the water tub was still mostly full so hopefully didn't stress them too much. This afternoon gonna hang the rub on a gate with a taller set of posts. I tried spraying them 3 days ago. Permetherin in diesel fuel with a knockoff fimco sprayer...shifting winds that...

    A Hay Calamity

I'm still trying to get a neighbor over to cut mine. Is there a point at which it's not worth the effort to put up?

    2 days no water

I'll have to try it with a different taller gate. I've got it at the top now. 2 can just get under without touching. I imagine several of the stubborn ones can also. Thanks for the info on the water toxicity. I'll just let them use the rubbermaid for another day before letting them at a pond...

    2 days no water

Had 11 out of 15 cows refuse to go under a backrub for cubes. I took it down, got them in the paddock with no water, and put it back up between them and water. That was at 8:00 am yesterday. Left them alone all day and night. Had 9 stubborn girls that wouldn't go under. Tried several times...

    Fly control backrubber

Permecterin 2 has a chemical other than Permetherin to make the Permetherin work better so you can use less. My Permetherin 10% says 1:80 = 8oz in 5 gal. for a backrubber. I bought a jug of the premixed Zap backrubber chemical, and felt awful dumb when I smelled the diesel fuel when I opened it.

    Fescue

On the pastures I've been brush hogging, or even just clipping seed heads, I get windrows of residue that I'm afraid are smothering grass. The only reason I'm clipping seedheads is I have a lot of tall fescue, and fall calving cows, and am worried about the fungus issues in their late...

    Fescue

Thanks. Also are you all harrowing or dragging after you clip?

    Fescue

Do you have any issue with the tall stems aggravating their eyes? Pinkeye? I recently clipped some of mine tall and had some concerns.

    No so dry dry lot

I don't have much experience, or how big your lot is, but the few dry lots I saw around flat land Iowa brought in dirt to make a good size mound in the middle to give them high ground to get up on.

    More grass than cows

When you say "clean it up" do you mean hay it? When I've mowed in the past I've had trouble with the windrow killing grass. I think I'm going to mow some of it just enough to knock the seed heads off, and mow another section down a little shorter than that. I'm just worried about fescue...

    Fencing project

Looks good. I'm not Fence, and don't have much experience, but have one anecdote. I had an inline pipe brace like that, in rocky ground and apparently it was only set 12-18" deep (sorry not sure on conversion) But a good sized tree branch, about 12" round, fell on the fence 3 posts down from...

    More grass than cows

So I'm starting with a small herd and they can't keep up with the grass production. I'm going to get a hotwire ran across my larger pastures to divvy then into manageable sections. Ive got a lot of tall fescue, and my cows are supposed to start calving in August. The pastures were all grazed...

    For better or worse

Thanks all, we're really excited. Feel like a real farm now. I was told they're bred to a registered Angus bull. I hope so. We'll see for sure when they calve  Any advice on what mineral or anything extra that would be good for them right now? I know that's a loaded question. Just not...

    For better or worse

This is the start of my herd. Got 15 cows last night. 4-6 yrs old, 2nd stage bred. 3 white faces the rest all black. Our steer is closest in this pic.

    Advice on what to buy

Howdy Neighbors! We just moved here 3 years ago, after visiting once and just falling in love with everything (except seed ticks and chiggers and giant horse flys) My wife commutes into Fayetteville. Really looking forward to settling in and exploring the state more.

    Advice on what to buy

Went and looked at the cheap cows today. They were skin and bones and straight from the sale barn. Going to look at getting 15 of these tomorrow. https://fayar.craigslist.org/grd/d/tyro-33-black-angus-cows/6877881486.html

    Advice on what to buy

I'll be looking to sell calves with minimal inputs at first. Don't want this to be too time consuming at first, so not wanting to get into purebred or anything serious. Mostly just want them so I don't have to lease or mow it all. Mainly looking at black cows cause I hear that's what sells...
