Dave, sometime about when i started this thread August 2024 futires were 2.80 or better. Got down to 2.40 along the way.

They haven't posted sale results yet. Bulls and cows shoukd have been very high. Auctioneer at Knoxville told me tonight the slaughter cows and bulls there today were the highest he had ever sold.

So at 1500 you can get more for them as feeder calves. Unless you have a reputation for selling bred heifers sometimes you dont get the full worth.

Keep in mind that many.places they start lowering the price after they get bigger than 2200. But weight is better than the few cents lost if he weighs 2500.

If they are good enough you can request that they be tested and sold by the head. Otherwise pretty much cutting bulls.

Yes cattle on feed report came out Friday showing less numbers on feed and less placements into the lots.

I bid on several cows yesterday but quit at 1.35 a pound. Got none. Local sale had 96 pairs and 17 bred cows. All old and still high.

In my area you just have to like cattle. There are lots of things that pay better with less expense.

In doing my taxes last week i found bills where i had given .80 for some calves late last spring. It could be that way again.

Part of them are so far out in the sticks they still take bear hides for trade.
