    Wound won't heal

Clean it with a antiseptic. Let it dry. Spray it with Iodine. Let it dry. Put a thick coat of blu-kote over it. Don't wrap it. If it needs to be covered, use a blue jean patch like you do on a pink eye calf. Keep the area sprayed for flies. Give her a shot of penicillin for three days.

    Small bump, roughness

Is it where you gave them vaccinations?

    Down. And out!

She probably fell thru the fence while trying to stand. I would lift her although my success rate when doing so is not very good. Its not that I do damage, its just that they are broke down enough to where they don't have the strength to push them selves back up. As big as she is, that could...

Bottle calf! Some say I'm crazy...

I would think that the mom would need to be in the pen with him to have any chance of mating them back up. If you have some splints, I think I would put them on for a few hours each day. It may speed up the process.

    Sick calf

Bad case of pneumonia. The extended neck gives it away as well as the grungy coat. I hope your meds are good.

    Robbed blind...

Plus they are open on Sunday.

    Robbed blind...

Complain all you want but the business has been well run. Stock in the company has performed well. Much better than my old cow contingent...

    Vaccinating calves

Less than a month is not to young for respiratory vac's. Giving Inforce 3 early has helped reduce my sickness rate tremendously.

    Ear infection or obstruction?

Are you sure she don't have ear mites? Give her ears a spray of Permethrin

    Can cattle OD on minerals

No. You are over thinking it. Put out the smallest amount they will clean up in a week or so. Keep it fresh.

    Rio max tubs

$470 plus or minus. A young man at the sale barn swears by them. He said the cows will only lick on them for a couple minutes and that is why you need less of them. He claims he went from feeding 10 rolls of hay a week to 4 with no loss of condition. He is one of those with a video...

    wormer

With wormer added to mineral. Some cows may get the correct amount of wormer, some may not get any. Same way with safeguard blocks. Some big cows will hog them while the timid ones stay away. I like injection wormers so I am sure they are all getting the correct amount.

    Droopy calf

What does the time of year have to do with it? See if the calf will take some out of a bottle to see if its hungry? Some selenium might help.

    Blind cow

If you are going to keep her and her friend separate from the herd, get her trained to follow a rattling bucket of cubes. It will make her much easier to load as well.

    Hardware?

Your neighbor was right. You are worrying too much. It is January by the way.

    Ferappease

Agree with you Lucky. On my never ending pursuit of gains and no shrink it usually works something like this trailer weaned -- shrink will run 8 to 12% . You are taking a $100 hit for each 500 lb calf and giving the cash to the buyer. weaned 15 to 20 days -- They will recover most of the...

    Ferappease

I see the same thing that Lucky and elk do. When I background my weaned calves in the warm months, they get very little grain. Really just enough to get them eating good. I am just wanting them to get healthy, & weaned good (hardened). Maybe put on some frame. Getting them fat is a money...

    Protein tubs

Nice but how do you get them in it?

Vaccinations for newly purchased cows and calves?

MultiMin is also what I would add. It sure seems to help on the old one and done cows I buy.
