Keeping the road from rolling up

Montana and Dakotas have been getting all the low pressure systems. We have been at the southern side of the lows and all we get is wind out of those. Been hauling to my summer lease pastures this week. Looks like August or worse. What is sort of green doesn't have much to it. Cows have...

Keeping the road from rolling up

Wind has been a bastard most of May and dry as a popcorn fart around here. Maybe 50% of usual forage production. Drought Monitor had us in the D0 zone last week. It has to be getting into D1 or D2. They are always about a month behind on their classifications. We left a lot of feed on our...

Hope he stays on his side of the fence.

Fences are only suggestions for bulls. My neighbor's have been good to work with and we let each other know when bulls are going out next to each other so can try and keep a pasture separation. Slowly getting some of the perimeters with electric top and middle. Need to have something that...

    Pleasant Surprises using AI Bulls

He looks like a decent bull, but his PAP EPD is no bueno here. I have heard of docility issues on Sitz Resilient, but have used him a fair amount and only one bull that was a little snorty and he got crippled as a yearling and canned. Good PAP, good growth, right mature size, decent carcass...

    Craigslist cattle

🙄 Maybe tiny highlands lead better with an upside down halter?

    Texas Tendencies

I think if I ranched in a hot place I would keep the cow herd some shade of red and breed them black.

    Foot rot

Forgot about the CTC and EDDI salt. That seems to help quite a bit as well.

    Foot rot

I think the one our vet uses is Fusogard or something like that name.

    Foot rot

Ours seem worst if we have a good growing year (not this year for us) with a lot of weeds. After the weeds cure out and they start stepping on broken weed stubs it causes scratches and worse between their toes and around the hairline and that seems to be where cases get started. Also going...

    AI conception rates

60-85% depending on the year. Usually 65-70%. General herd seems to breed up 2/3 first cycle, 2/3 of 1/3 second cycle, then the stragglers. I think sometimes they initially stick A.I. then lose the pregnancy around 30-40 days and become late breeders. Always something.

    Daily Chuckle

I saw one on Facebook had the "C" word on the tag in all caps loaded in a trailer and looked mean as h#ll.

    2024 Stocker Project!

Needs a pitchfork poke in the butt for that. I spend 2-3 days working on manners at the dinner table with every bunch.

    When buying registered cattle

I always ask if buyers want papers transferred. 90% don't want more paper. The ones that do it is pretty simple to do on our account with the AAA website and they will mail directly to buyer for a small extra fee.

    Milk Replacer with Soy Protein

I had a spare twin that was a bottle calf for a month or so last spring. Accidentally bought some replacer that had soy protein. That calf's butt reeked for a two weeks after I found the real stuff. His name was Stinky for the rest of the summer even after I got a cow to take him.

    Bull Shopping

That bull will get more bred than any fat bull and gain condition doing it.

    But they will still complain.

    2 new ones last week

    OP said 2 bull calves - I dunno in today's gender-fluid world.

    Case 495 Struggling

I have a 485. At the bottom of the tank on the right side mine has a fuel shut off valve. That has built up sludge a few times and had to take it off and clean it. Drain water out of the fuel/water separator filter. Those would be two things to check.
