@Travlr Need a face shield, apron and gloves. And prepare to get covered in it. 🤣 I watched my vet do that too. He got the one side alright. By the time he got to the other side to get that bleeder he had enough and let that side go.... Even with nose tongs and a helper, those calves still...

@farmerjan the comment on the rope had me cracking up. The dairy I got Eleanor from used a piece of string tied to the cows right rear leg. Just a simple piece of string was all took. And it was only a couple cows that he had to train that way. He called it "tying them down" 🤣

Ideally it's best to do over the fall/winter when flies are not a problem. It's funny, I bought these fancy cutters, and while I was working these calves I noticed TWO sets of tree pruners hanging above the work bench. They looked like they had seen plenty of use. Ive seen what pruners do to...

    My girls

This is what we have reduced to. The reason for buying a boring ol black bull. The fence jumpers went to sale. Sally lost her calf and sold too. The big eared cows calf disappeared. Everything brought really good money. So I've got Milkshake, Dapples, Bessie, Rocket and Seven. Seven is left of...

I hope she calms down soon for you. There is a lot of value in a cow that will stand to be milked by hand without anything but a halter and tied off. Or a bucket of feed for that matter. I know these things!

I really want to get a hot iron for after. I remember the last ones I had the vet do for me couple years ago. Seemed to not bleed near as much. This bull calfs horn base was very large. Could not get as close to the head as I'd a liked. It'll still be better tho. Especially come this fall when I...

Like @farmerjan said. I'd Hobble her right away. She will learn real quick that kicking is a big no-no! Once u get her milked a few times, things will go so much smoother. She doing the heifer dance with you. Who's the better dancer?

    Close to $2.00 killer bulls

200 lbs at $1.50 hurts a little. But at the same time, buyer is gonna dial it back some if the animal is too full too!
