I am told that there there will be a snow bird shortage in the south this winter. In part, because Canadians have to stay home? Where does this end?

    Grazing Alfalfa

No chronic bloaters in my herd, but have had one in the freezer occasionally. My issue is they seem to have an off taste. What is your experience?

    Grazing Alfalfa

Legume leaves burst after the first good frost. Burst leaves are dangerous. Alfalfa leaves fall off a month or so after killing frost. So I would graze it two weeks after the first good frost with cattle that are not real hungry.

    Grazing Yearlings in 2021

Many avoid calves less than 350 pounds. That kind need a lot of grain, and some TLC. I think they are money makers. I have also bought 250 pounders a few times and penned them in a shed. Kind of like raising puppies.

    Diesel Tractor Starting Tips ?

I am spraying ether into the air intake. No block heater currently. Sounds like a practical approach. How do you handle some vintage tractors that do not have a port in the block for circulation? How does injection pump timing get off?

    Diesel Tractor Starting Tips ?

Bought a MM 670 for the price of the Firestones. Tractor runs good with tons of torque and no exhaust smoke, but it is a hard starter. Usually requires some ether, and then runs really rough for a couple minutes. Any tips on how to correct this? Injectors?

    Elk hunting

Been attacked by an elk herd once. When the shooting started, they turned down hill and came almost straight at us, plunging down a steep slope in two feet of snow. We had caught them up against a cliff and the shots must have echoed. The boys tagged out.

lots of cows going to the sale around here

Sorry to hear you are so dry. Sounds like it may spread... Some increased culling here too. Mostly because income over feed cost has been down for cow calf. Harlan evaluated some drought scenarios in the October issue of Beef mag. I don't agree with all of his assumptions, but it is still...

    Fall is in the air

Fall Hell. It is winter here. Got 4" snow today, forecasting 6+ on Thursday, and a third shot on Sunday. Calves ran wild this morning, and then the cows came home for the first time. Still have some standing forage out there... Will have to wait and see if we get a thaw.

    Grazing Yearlings in 2021

Depends on two things: 1) why are they lightweight ? 2) how good of a stockman r u ? Most mass medicate when purchased. Some put them in small pens to help get them started. Do the above and death rate should be the same as 4 wts.. Need to make change(s) in either case if death rate is over 3%.

    Grazing Yearlings in 2021

The dry area is spreading. So far it has helped to increase grain prices and reduce feeder prices. Fat prices have not been effected, so value of gain has increased. So is running yearlings a good bet in 2021?
