Crepe feed
Look at this label and tell me what you think. This is a tractor supply store feed and I bought the last 4 bags on the shelf. First time I have ever seen 15% in my store. I normally mix a 3/4 bag of 12% sweet feed and a full bag of 15%. The sweet feed is preventive to eat it.
 
Hard to make out all of the tag but there are a few clues.
- labeled as a commodity pellet. One could feed it as a creep feed but it is not.
- 30% fibre. Not very specific about source to achieve 30%. Is it a digestible fibre like beet pulp, soy hulls? Or my suspicion is an oat hull type fibre source. Calves will gain on digestible fibre. Wont on the other fibre. Digestible adds cost, non digestible makes it competitively priced Again, because of the feed name, I suspect oat hull type fibre. Both have their place in nutrition.
- 2% fat. Typically you would see 2.5% - 3% with a mix of grains. Again, high fibre ingredients wont contribute much / any fat. And again, I suspect oat hulls.
-can you compare different geed costs from the same company? A true free choice good quality creep feed will be considerably more $$ than a commodity type feed because of the cost of ingredients and the commodity feed is probably subject to least costing = means ingredients can and will change based on cost. True creep feeds are usually “fixed” formula So if an ingredient goes up in cost, so does your feed as the formula is fixed.
- All this is IMHO!!
 
Ah, I can see a little more of the tag. Grain screening pellets are the main fibre source. Variable energy levels but typically low and cheap.
 
I have a new feed store opened near me that carries tubs and all kinds of feed where much of what they carry is made near my zip code. I’ll get me a label and compare next week. The problem appreciate the response, as usual tractor supply was out of the 14% I try to buy. There is another feed store that just opened up near me and they carry a 15% creep feed by name on the bag, I think next time I buy I’ll try them because they have the mineral tubs and all kinds of feed where much of what they carry is made near those zip code. I’ll get me a label and compare next week. The problem
I have with tractor supply is they don’t have in stock what I bought last go around. Thanks for your reply, I see all 15% feed is not created equal.

Try those feed stores, especially if they mix their own feed.

TSC can be convient because of their store hours and things but they can also be pretty pricey. As you saw, their selection and inventory can be pretty spotty also.

I was traveling from on place to another on a Sunday and remembered I needed salt so I whipped in to a TSC. I figured that's simple and I only needed about 10 bags. When I asked if they had salt the lady pointed to a shelf that has 2 bags. I asked if they could load it from the back outside. She looked at me like I was stupid and said... for 2 bags? 🤣 I said... well I would like 10. She quickly responded... we only have what you see.

I took the two and just went on. I learned my lesson. TSC gets me out of a bind traveling or at odd hours or on the weekend but they are no replacement for a good feed store or co-op.
