Back in the day that was dad, but he always used a fairly short rope; I'm pretty sure it was shorter than 30'. I don't remember how long is rope was.

Best look yet at the Priefert SC25 so far. Pay attention to the minimal amount of effort required to operate it. And to how "clean" it is from "mechanisms" and levers and headbangers. Nothing sticking up high over the top of the chute, all the mechanisms are laying "flat" on top. I might question that panel on the bottom though, with how that works (doors that swing out and might be hanging in your way, could get bent, etc., vs. removed entirely on their SO4/191), and then that "latch panel" for them that remains when you've got those doors open... looks to me like it could be "sharp", something to get hung up on if working with a calf underneath a Momma, or working on feet through that space.

I asked if anyone had any experience with this brand of chute in another post. I had my vet out to semen test a bull a couple days ago and I brought this chute up. He asked what brand it was and I told him he probably never heard of it. When I told him he said he worked bulls through one the day before. Turned out a friend of mine bought one. He has a bunch of rodeo stock. I called him and he really likes it. He went on and on about all the cool features it has. I’m going to get one to replace a very old Pearson chute I have by my house. My vet said it’s plenty big to run my herd bulls through. It has a built in palp cage, brisket bar and a neck clamp. Both sides open up fully. And only $5,350. Hopefully I like it as well as I think I’m going to.

Well, I got it, it’s here, and it is a pleasure to use. I think my vet will be happy at preg testing time.

Just looking at Oregon Trail Livestock supply yard I would say that the Silencers are out selling the Arrowquip chutes at about 3 to1. But as is often said they all beat a fast horse and a long rope.
My neighbour has two silencers. They seem to be fine. I think up here Arrowquip is the more popular choice. Likely has something to do with dealers. I’ve never been able to tell by looking at a lot who was outselling whom.
Silencer is known to be the popular choice for feedlots, Arrowquip tends to be marketed to and bought by ranchers in this part of the world.
I don't know a single person that has a Silencer around here. But Tiffany Cattle Co is a well-known feedlot that has one, not too far away.

That place is right on a corner which I drive by a couple times a week. Just noticing what disappears when I drive by. I know of 3 silencers here in my little valley. I don't know of a single Arrowquip in the country. I know there is one at the supply store. Every now and then it will be gone. Then in a couple weeks he will replace it. Both sale yards have Silencers. A lot of old Powder River chutes around here. I think with cattle prices they are being replaced.

Well, I can PM you directions to my place and I can load it for you. I’ll have to let you handle the logistics of getting it home lol. But I’d appreciate the visit and if you came all this way I’d give you the old chute.
It uses hydraulic oil. I can’t tell you if the pump is loud because my 10KW generator won’t run it. I had to use my tractor, but I can tell you it is very quiet lol

Are you concerned about that in the winter? The “warm up time “ probably is my biggest concern about upgrading to a hydraulic chute.
How much electricity was required to run the pump?
I know some guys around here who run their for-most off a tractor. They get along really well with it.
They say it takes 5.5kw to run it but 4 times that to start it.
I’m not concerned about winter use as I don’t us this setup during winter months. But if I were to use the tractor to power it the oil would be warm. And I will store the electric pump in a warm place too, so it would be okay I’m sure.
