I feel this community is the most liberal of any in the US. I pulled an electric over hydraulic dump trailer for one of the Amish a couple months ago because it was farther than he wanted to pull it with his 125hp cab tractor. In some ways they are more modern than I am.

We have the B&W set up and have always switched our camper over to gooseneck so I didn't have to put that big 5th wheel hookup in and out. Bought an Anderson hitch with our new camper and like it so much I'm going to put an Anderson receiver on my 23' stock trailer. Getting in and out of the bed of that tall truck gets old
 
Wow, extremely nice. I'm sure you have some big trips planned. In Australia we have the "Grey Nomads" who buy a big caravan and 4wd on retirement and do a lap of the continent but not too many as big as that. Good to hear that things have gone well with your wife.
I just bought a small caravan a couple of weeks ago just to do a few short trips, 2-3 nights at a time. I had a bigger van several years ago but never used it so sold it. I'm trying to force myself to get away a bit. I love what I do on the farm but I think I need to force myself to broaden my horizons a bit.
I hope you have some great adventures with your trailer, thanks for the photos.

I bought a stripped out vintage aluminum trailer to remodel on my last year on the ranch. But we had some big winds and the trailer (caravan) tipped over and it tweaked.

But since I've built three camping trailers. Of the trailers I've had, I like the ones I built the best. The biggest reason is that I have a true queen sized bed with a real mattress. But it doesn't hurt that I can build one for a couple of grand instead of paying ten times that (or more) for something that will depreciate and fall apart.

I have an old classmate that did the same. . It sat then for several years before he finally took it out. Said it was great and now his wife wants to camp more I guess. Sometimes you just need to get away from home for a few days.
 
I was so disappointed with the cheapness of "campers" (everything about them is just cheap, cheap, cheap.... except for the price). I was pretty determined that I wanted to build one myself instead. But then I thought about "how" I normally build stuff.... meaning OVERBUILDING it, so it won't fall apart. And then I figured out how heavy that thing would end up being behind the truck to drag around if I built it... and changed my mind. I can't imagine how they figure ANY of them are "half ton towable"... I've got a 34' fifth wheel "ultra-light" that they claim is "half-ton towable"... pulling it with a 1T diesel dually... and I would never want less truck under it than that.

They put that to lure in all the 1/2 ton people so they think it's cheap to get in to. Once the camper is bought they know those people will go upgrade the truck.

There's also plenty of people that think they need a one ton dually diesel to pull their sxs or a trailer of hay.
