New trucks

So the big question... is why brand new?
Taxes is biggest reason. Everything i have is depreciated out.
plus i haven't had a brand new truck since 1990.
Its probably more of a want than a need. I want a gas instead of diesel, i want an 8 ft bed to haul my river boat. I want a crew cab so my nieces and nephew can go fishing with me.
So yes more of a want than a need.

Like I said in some of the other threads, I'm really liking my 24 Chevy 3/4 gas. I burn up a lot of road and usually like to get where I'm going. With my tires and stuff I get about 13-14mpg empty running 75-80. Loaded it will go 8-9mpg, but again, I'm usually leaning on it if I can.

Most my pulling is probably on the #5-10k range, up to about probably #13k or so. I pull that 20' aluminum gn cattle trailer and it pulls great. I don't really need to haul more than that.
In pricing them the last couple days Chevy and Ford are several thousand higher than Dodge. And used with 40k miles aren't much cheaper.

Well I hope you find something great. Like others have said, I'm getting old and a tall truck is hard to want. My current truck has a factory 2 inch lift and I wish I'd kept the one that didn't have the lift.

Not really my business, but I hope you negotiate...

The height of the new trucks may be a deal breaker. I have a 2003 Chevy 2500 and have problems getting in it.
Oh yes i will negotiate until they hate me. One salesman is a friend so he has my number. The others will get my first name, an offer from me, and tell them that i will write a check when we agree. No phone number so they can harass me later. When i leave a dealership im done with them.

Excellent...

That's how it has always been. Ford the highest, then GM, then Dodge.

In general, some things on like the interior, as an example, on the Dodges are made a little cheaper and don't always hold up like the others. You will notice rattles and things sooner. To some that matters, to some it doesn't.

That's why you see the difference in resale value also.

Kenny for a real good tax right off get a King Ranch, Big Horn, High Country edition as they have the automatic step boards that pop out to greet you or at least the Godzilla does and almost lifts you in the truck. Like heaven on earth. I will be envious.

I got a new King Ranch this year, but it also has the Trimmer Off Road package, so no retractable steps. I'm all leg, so I just gazelle up there but I did buy a folding step stool for Mr TC.

Puts some Nerf bars on it. We had to put some on our 2018 Chevy so dad could get in and out easier. For dad it was a game changer.

A while back my 2006 Chevy 1500 threw an error message that the brakes needed work. It had 290,000 miles on it, and a few other issues, so I decided I wasn't going to spend any more money on it and sold it.

Last month I bought a 2021 and we took it on vacation a week later. My short-legged wife and sister struggled getting in the front seat, and needed help getting in the back seat, so I had some put on it when we got back.

I'll confess that I'm using them too, especially for getting out. It keeps me from having to slide over the edge of the seat, which should help it hold up longer.

By the way, coming through New Mexico, when it was flat ground and 50-60 miles between stops, it got 22 mpg. It's 18-19 the rest of the time.

A new 4 door with a long bed is going to need 40 acres to turn around, the Fords with an extra cab have a lot more room in them than you might think.

When I was truck shopping for myself a few years back, I drove a handful of Fords with the 10 speed - both gas and diesel. I didn't care for the transmission much, it kept hunting for gear when you were on a 55 mph road - pretty annoying. The 7.3 gas pulled exactly the same as my old 1997 Ford with the 7.3 diesel, I was expecting much more from all the hype. Long story short, we bought the wife a new truck (the one we had down your way this past spring) and I took her old 2009 Dodge.

Fold out steps is exactly what I was going to suggest. A friend has them on his 1 ton ford and it’s so easy for even his 5’2” wife. Personally I prefer the dodge for the new coil spring ride, also the huge price savings over the other 2 brands. Dodge isn’t as fancy or pretty but I don’t need all that. Something I did notice is how much easier my dodge is to clean the interior without all the “extra” nooks and crannies! I do have one friend with a 3/4 ton ford with that turbo 6 cylinder that he just won’t get rid of and he pulls his 32’ fifth wheel right down the road with us. Gears are important

Are New Mexico roads still the worst? I've never seen so many splits running parallel to the road that are wide enough to lose a tire inside... and apparently their road department thinks it's okay.

I am a Ford man all the way but that being said if I hit the Powerball tomorrow I don’t think I would buy a new truck. I would maybe spend an obscene amount fixing up an old one.

As far as gas 3/4 tons that GM with the 6.0 is hard to beat it pains me to say it.

Our 2024 F250 is taller than our 2019 F350 but has the automatic steps and it's really easy to get into. I think any of the new truck with running boards are fairly easy to climb in though. Last year we had a bit of snow and the automatic steps froze up and wouldn't go up or down, I had a heck of a time getting in and out of it.

The XL model Fords have 6.8l now. It's a detuned 7.3l but may be a little easier on fuel and the pocketbook. I really like all the bed steps on the new Fords they make it easy to get in and out of.

I've found that if you find a place that offers Internet pricing it's usually about the best deal you'll find. We use Holiday Ford out of Whitesboro, Tx for a reference. They also have a Chevy dealer. I know they aren't close to you but may give you an idea on price.

My mom's Explorer has those automatic steps on it. They let down whenever you open the door. and retract when you close it. This 2012 F250 I just bought, has nerf bars on it, but I am taking them off. They lower the ground clearance. Gonna put a little taller tires on it, too. I am looking now for some like the old CO-OP Grip Spurs. I haven't seem any since they closed the Gold Kist stores 20 years sago. I miss them as bad as I miss the 7.3, the inline 300 six cylinder, and the straight front axels on the 4 wheel drives . I sound like an old man, huh?

All I'm familiar with is 416 from Clayton to Springer to Red River, and then to Santa Fe (where we picked up my sister) and back. It's pretty much all just two lanes, but they're in decent shape, and there's not much traffic. I can set my cruise control to 75 on 412 between Clayton and Springer (speed limit is 65) and not encounter another vehicle going my same direction for 30 or 40 miles.

I miss the days when you could stand at the beside a long bed and reach over the bed rail and touch the bottom of the bed of a pickup truck :D

My oldest had a '96 F150 2wd with an 8' bed that was like that until he wrecked it twice. It was the preferred truck to move anything or go to Lowe's and pickup anything.

Now I have a 2017 F250 that takes a ladder to get into, it doesn't help it has 37" tires and a 2.5" level, but I digress.

The 17-19 superduties are tall trucks to begin with.

I did install a set of the power steps when you open the door and they make a big difference.

To add to all of this, it is hard to beat a new Ford Superduty in my eyes. They are solid trucks.

Plus we roll the Aluminum for them here at work.
