Update on twins : been busy moving hay and getting an electric fence back up and running around 10 acres of hay ground. Went up to check that herd and found them lying together with mom grazing a short distance away.

It would be hard to find a cow that could produce more income than that in a year. Cash that trio out as a pair and a single that is a ton of money for one breeding!

I'm going to hang on to them as long as they continue to grow and momma isn't pulled down too far . We didn't get a lot of heifers out of the brangus bull so here are 2 out of a very good momma. Talked to a friend who had a jersey that he’s fixing to wean her calf . But he said she wasn’t much fun to work with . He’s tried to put an extra calf on her without any success. I don’t have the patience to put up with an ornery cow .

Over on the coast I would leave them both on the cow. Here they both stay on the cow until we need a graft calf. Or if they are still both on the cow come branding one gets pulled. Because shortly after that they will be going to the hills and a cow with two calves just isn't going to work up in the hills.

Finally got a couple pics of my first calf heifer raising "twins". The orphan is the baldie steer, white tag.
Looks like she is doing a good job!
Well I have to be careful in wording this I am not a fan of cow twins but being the grandmother of twins I am a huge fan of people twins. How did I do lol

Still growing and mom is keeping her weight . Acting more like twin girls . Hanging out together, playing together, and eating together.

I may hate twins but i am going to to take last ones to stockyard tomorrow! They will weigh close to 500 lbs each . 2 years in a row for this cow to have twins.Have to wait a few months to see if she can do 3 years in a row.
Once in awhile a set of twins can work out for sure. This year I left a set on a good miking cow and kept them on a smaller tame pasture. The freemartin fit in with the group of 635 lb heifers and the steer fit nicely in the group of steers that averaged 737 lbs. so she grossed about $7000 for her calves. We will see on Wednesday if she is bred back. She is a B cow so nearing the end of her run anyway so wouldn’t hurt too bad.

I can’t remember all the sets we’ve had . Usually lose both or at least one of them . Even had a set of triplets 3-4 years ago and lost one of those . We have had a little better luck with a few lately. But I’d take a single over twins any day !

That's been my experience too. We had a cow that had 9 calves in 5 pregnancies and only one set survived. One set both died, and the other two sets had a single survivor. It's heart wrenching to see beautiful calves laying dead on the ground just because they had problems with birth.

She has had several singles but birthed and raised 4 calves in the last 2 years
