Did I say : I hate twins ?

IMG_7895.jpegNo luck finding both babies yesterday/ Monday. But got up this am and went up to see if I could find them . Started looking where we saw them . Walked maybe 10 minutes when I heard a calf bawling. There was #2 ! I got it up with the cows that had gathered at my truck . Bless its heart it tried nursing every cow up there , even a couple of dry ones . Finally here comes momma with #1 and she calls to the baby and it starts nursing. Hopefully she knows she has 2 . I'll sleep better knowing they are big and strong enough to go find momma. Didn’t have my phone so I still don’t have a picture of #2. Both heifers ! Out of the brangus bull .

Twins can be a pain in larger pastures ... we calve in smaller dedicated fields... and can more easily move a cow with twins if she needs some help to remember she has 2 until they get up and going better... We had one that counted to 2 from the start, with her 2; the other one, her twins were small and they needed some help by putting her in a small lot so the twins could get to her without getting "lost"..... but after a couple weeks, of closer supervision.....they went back out with the rest of the fresh cows, and both took them out to pasture for the summer....

Hope your twins get it figured out and she counts to 2 real soon for you.

The one looks real nice, is the other as nice?

Yes , more white on its face and 2 black eyes . Never had twin heifers . Momma is a good one so maybe she will raise them . Have another cow in that pasture that has and will let other calves nurse . So maybe she’ll help out .
 
If you go out there every day and KNOW for sure that they both nurse at least once a day for a week... like you did finding the one and getting it back together with momma, then I think you will be good to go... The calf needs to get up a little strength and "umph".... once it figures out that it has to "go looking" for a meal... and after a couple days of nursing, it will get hungry enough, to want a regular meal, and will it will like having a full belly, so will make the effort to rustle it's meal from someone...... so if you make sure they get a good nursing for the next few days, I really hope they will both "get it"... Looks like the one is very good sized, hoping the other is close to the same size...
Your due diligence to find them and get them together with the momma cow for a few days ought to be just what they need... and if the one gets hungry, it will go to someone else to try to cop a meal...or go hollering for momma...
