I have thought about it but the grass recovery from the fire has kept my hands in my pockets so far.
I hear hay is pretty reasonable down there. Washington hay is coming into BC. My barley is $150 per metric ton cheaper than 2 years ago and pea screenings are contracted at $265 landed, last year they were $360.
Was up and on the road at 3 am yesterday, home this morning at 1. Gathered up 108. Brought a trailer load last night and a friend is going to try and fill the liner this morning. One would think I am related to Kenny Thomas for hours I spend.

What is the average weight on the ones here in the pics?
Those sure aren't dinks you're buying. Seems like they have more flesh than I’ve seen you buy in the past. What weight are you planning on taking them to?

I only drove 15 hours yesterday 740 miles. Traffic was the worst i ever seen.
440 to 620
They should be close to 900 by March. A purebred breeder decided not to mess with selling bulls anymore so I got 8 half bulls as cheap feeders. People need to learn to count to 2.
Those good red steers cost $3.42 and weighed 630.
I drove nearly 500 and took in 9 hours of cow sale. Rather have my day!

I opened my casino yesterday. I went to the sale and figured I might buy an old one and done or two. They had a couple thousand feeder cattle to sell ahead of the cows. Figured I would just go home. Went out to the vet chute to see what they had. They had preg checked 150 cows. So I stuck around. Ended up buy 15 cows at 8:00 in the evening. All 5 or 6 months bred. They averaged weighing 1,150 and costing $1.15 a lb. They sold all the bred cows by the pound. The total aver cost was $1,330 a head. I could have bought twice that many and not raised my average much at all. Maybe I should have. But I will be spending most of the day today hauling these home.

Fall pairs here at the beginning of the month were well worth the money, but the spring bred cows that you would have to carry over winter before the coupon dropped were plenty expensive.

Fall pairs on Thursday were $2,200-$2,400. There was only 3 of us buying bred cows. One guy out bid me a couple of times. A group of 7 BM cows weighing 1,150 that were bred 6 came in. I thought I would find out how far he would go. I got them for $1.26 a lb. Still well within my price limit. He bought 20-30 cows pretty early and left. The other guy was buying all the 2,3,& 4 month bred cows. He bought a few earlier calving ones too. he must have filled up as he stopped. At the end it was me and the kill buyers. The last 7 I bought were all under $1.15. And I got pretty picky by that point.

You could have bought average blk 3 yr olds with month old calves for $2,400 the heavier nice march calving blks were $26-2,800

Solid mouth Feb-March calving black cows were $1,600 in groups early in the sale. I know I quit some at $1,550. I bought several of that kind later in the sale selling as singles for $1.07 a lb. One bid over the kill buyers.
Got the heifer calves worked before lunch and some weather blew in. 87 in an hour and 45. 2 vaccines, a Draxxin and a brand. Will Ivomec when we have them all gathered up. 29 male calves to work if this system lets us.

That's the way to do it... Smart buying with an eye to some reasonable expectations.
