Anyone here purchased bulls from Mound Creek? I daydream at times and look at different seedstock operations....the bulls look exceptional. Just curious if anyone has some real world experience with them on crossbred cows :tiphat:

Yes they can! The times that they sull in the chute and just have that low, continuous gutteral (spelling) growl....you just know they're wanting to hook your clothes off.

I know what you mean! I have a weakness for a uniform herd of dark striped cows!!! It would be cool to know the prevalence of bottle tits on the f1's off either Hereford or Brahman dams...

I agree on the sometimes bloated price tags - I've been to special sales where 3 or 4 potential buyers get into an ego contest on who has the larger checkbook. Two years ago I watched an older gentleman pay $3500 for short bred f1s.

I'm looking for some input here from guys/gals with long standing operations consisting of half blooded brahman cattle in the South I had a pretty long winded conversation with a cousin of mine about the initial input cost of F1 cows vs your average commercial cow purchased from the sale barn...

Seems like a rancher in North Ms was using longhorn/jersey recips for a PB Angus operation....think he had mixed results Lack of milk was never an issue though

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I'm curious who has top seeded their annual ryegrass onto short cut bahia fields? What results did you have and what was your stocking rate @ the time ? More economical compared to complete seedbed preparation but will the cows keep it ate down to...

If you have any local team ropers you could sell the horned heifer to rope - she's got good bases and is the right size I'm not sure what you paid for them but fresh roping cattle are worth more than scale prices

I like the heifer - think both bulls would have made better steers

Thanks - I'm unable to plant ryegrass on this new lease property All my cows calve in November. I'll have plenty of quality hay but want additional protein source - think I'll go with the liquid feed !!!

Does anyone utilize liquid feed through the winter as a substitute for rye grass? If so, what luck have you had with it - advantage/disadvantages Thanks Located South Louisiana

South Louisiana - it's a group of about 15 cows Since the bull would be free I figured I'd give it a shot...I'm assuming they'd be brahman colored as well

That's what I was thinking too....end up having mostly bull calves and get hammered at market :(
