Gosh, thanks again for all the good input Yes the calves are quite big and of course with just four, we have not weaned anything. We also thought that he must have everything bred when he started pushing the fence for the neighbor cow. And those angus females kept getting out and into our yard...

Thank you everyone. You gave me exactly the information I was looking for. We got the bull the middle of september and he went home the middle of november because he was looking at our neighbors registered angus herd. We have four pairs, the calves are about 8 months now, and five heifers...

Hello We have one cow and two heifers that did not get bred while we had a bull with them. They are all longhorns that we raise for roping cattle. My husband wants to look into getting the three A.I.'d, but I don't know the cost or the procedure and if it would even be worth it for three...

Thanks so much I worm twice a year with pour on and vaccinate everything else once a year, Blackleg and something else, I can't remember off the top of my head. One is intra muscular and the other is subcataneous. Just didn't know if it was different with cows and calves. Hopefully we can get...

I have three longhorn pairs, the calves are about 2 months old, two bulls, one heifer. How soon do I castrate? When and with what do I vaccinate them? How about the mothers, when do I worm and vaccinate and with what? We have about 16 head of roping cattle (includes the pairs) on about 10...

    Calving Close?

That is why I put Quotes around steer. We bought him just weaned at a sale as a steer, he was very small and weak, and turned out to be a bull....very late bloomer. I was told that Longhorns don't have late bloomers and he must have been shooting blanks, but obviously was not. Thanks for the...

    Calving Close?

Oops sorry. I just wanted to know if anyone deals with Longhorns and if their calving and care is easier than the commercial beef breeds. Thanks for the post

    Calving Close?

I have 3 longhorn heifers bred (accidentally to a Longhorn "steer"). Anyway, their bellies are huge and they are getting a little bit of a bag. My friend says it is close when they start "springing"? I don't know what that means. I don't know how to tell when they are close to calving. I...

    Vaccinating

somn thanks, I would have never thought of that. I checked on them last night, I have kept them in for a couple of days to keep an eye on them, and they look fine. I will turn them back out on pasture tonight or tomorrow.

    Vaccinating

Thanks for all the help yesterday. The smaller gauge needle was so much better. I got them done last night and did not seem to hurt anyone. I lost some dosage through where the needle attaches to the syringe, so I hope everyone got enough. I didn't want to poke them a second time. It only...
