Are the days of a small registered breeder over

I agree with UG, well said. We were asked by a large producer to work as a Red Angus satellite herd and add the bulls we raise to one of their sales. They have buyers asking for 20 + bulls that meet certain criteria, and these buyers don't want to mess with shopping around. On our own, we'd...

    Breeding Season Garuntee....bull purchase

I'd call them also, if I was the seller I'd figure no news is good news. If you're only 75 miles away, they might want to come out and look at him themselves and discuss options with you in person (at least that's how I'd do it if I sold him).

    Cow Pictures

I'll play. Not real recent pictures, I believe they were taken in December. Here's two of our young PB Red Angus cows. And two of our young PB Angus cows.

Genex Angus and Simi-Angus Sires ?

We used him lightly this year, only have about 10 calves out of him out of 4.5-5 frame PB Angus cows (used him to bring up their frame size some). They are stout calves, big hipped, big topped, and good depth as far as you can tell in a 3 month old calf. All came easily out of the cows, but...

    Bull year?

We're running close to 50/50. Last year we were heavy on heifers from AI sires, and heavy on bulls calves from the herd bulls. This year they seemed to have averaged themselves out between the two.

    Gelbvieh 4H steer

Nice steer! I can't find many holes in him from the pics, I appreciate his length and it looks like he's fairly clean fronted with good bone and muscle. Maybe you'll get a surprise and he'll beat out the blacks, judges around my area are starting to become less prejudiced towards the colored...

    yearling bull price

We averaged $4500 on the bulls we just sold on our small bull sale - lowest was $3500, highest was $7000. Most bulls around our area are selling in the 3500 - 4500 range. Calving ease/heifer bulls are selling at a premium - no matter the breed.

    EPD vs Actual Performance

I'd rather look to the adjusted weaning weight than the actual. At least the adjusted takes the age and possible creep into consideration, along with the cow age. But I tend to lean towards looking at the EPDs first, and the actual data second.

    Gelbvieh heifer

Nice heifer! Have you tried rubbing her with a grill brick to get the curly dead hair out? It always worked well for us for our Angus heifers.
