    Well Crap

Last year, a new cow i bought broke out. next morning i saw her walking back from the woods to the back yard, i opened the slider door to lock the gate behind her but she bolted and ran back in the woods. I chased her for 2 months in the woods around me, after half of the town tried to help i...

So what impact does breed Vs. feed have on beef flavor?

the feed and the processing is what will make the difference. Make sure you read a lot about feeding and finishing so you can be proud of the end results

Financing bred heifers? Or bad idea

be honest with yourself, figure out how long would it take you ideally to pay off the loan, and make your lease period for that length of time if not longer, that way if the landowner decided he needed his land you won`t get screwed while you have a good thing going. Also add a clause in the...

    Who started from nothing?

if you are looking for a success story there are plenty out there, but none of them is yours nor will they apply to your situation. if you want something (Which i assume a big spread with lots of cattle on it) you better get to working, a day job and checking cattle on your leased land at night...

Too many cow issues to count!

If you want to have couple of cows to raise their steers for beef you should start with couple steers first to learn the trade. When you feel confident enough, buy three mature bred cows (they know what they are doing) instead of raising them from young heifers, a lot of work and many problems...

Annual buy & sell of cattle or animals for profit

the closest thing to profit is to find some folks who are interested in grass fed beef, and in the fall sell them quarters. you will not double your money, but it is a solution to your problem, and you will get some money+some beef+ the joy of raising cattle and receive a good word from your...

the value of a great cow of the "wrong breed"

Well, ask yourself couple of questions and answer them as honestly as you can. How much is their asking price compared to the price of similar quality registered cattle of whatever breed you own? then if the price makes sense, ask yourself if you crossed them with a one of your registered bulls...

    Beefmaster

I don`t mean to hijack the thread, but i also wanted to get opinions on breeding Beefmaster bull to red Angus Cows. I don`t know if the cross would work in the north east, and how Beefmasters do in the rough winters and deep snow.
