i was told if a cow is bred it may show secondary signs of heat the following cycle time after being bred but will not come into standing heat.but i was also told they wont show any signs at all if they're bred..any ideas???
heat detector patches give you a general idea but are only an aid.you can tell when a heifer is coming into heat the night before (usually) not always but she'll start acting strange, walking the fence and bawlin alot its obvious.i used the patches, but the only way to really tell is to check them...
i work in a small custom butcher shop..from what i've seen nice butcher size hogs run about 250 on the hoof, then usually lose about a 3rd from hoof to rail..then u can usually expect to lose about another 3rd from rail to freezer....where i live we buy butcher hogs regularly from local farmers...
this year i bred my heifers 2 reg. reds and a sim/angus for calving ease obviously, being new i wanted as few problems as possible,i plan on keeping at least 1 heifer (if i have any) ,for the next few yrs i plan on just building my herd.So my main interest is building good solid cows
i just bought a nice auto/manual headgate that closes when the cows push on it with there shoulders.costed about 500 bux new.works great!! tell your boss to buy one and remind him its a tax writeoff. .i wouldnt feel safe using that setup on my heifers
i'm new to the cattle business first of all and purchased a couple reg. red heifers and AI'd them to LMG GILLS CUSTER 1580 and wondering if anybody has used him and can share any info.thnx.
