    stall or pasture

Well we stall our competition horses. They are blanketed and put in the stalls at night only. Turned out during the day. The one mare is better being stalled each night. She prefers being inside at night. The other mare arrived yesterday so we shall see what she prefers. One of the...

    need an answer quick!

After a bath put on a cooler (fleece) blanket to soak up the water. Once dry put the other blanket (sheet or winter blanket). The other blankets are not designed to help dry a horse. A cooler is designed to take the water off of the horse.

Advice for involving horses in wedding

Well we had horses in our wedding. Groomsmen and ring bear rode in on horse back and myself and brides maids came in by hay wagon pulled by team of percherons. Great fun.

    twins

We had a set of twins born about 3 days apart last year. (Saw cow have both of them.) She looked after them both although it was about 1 week after the 2nd was born that she would let the two calves be together. Definitely was a head scratcher.

    RFID - Australian Perspective

I am pretty sure the one auction we have sold through has the scanner set up as well. They rebuilt they back area two years ago in incorporated the scanner for the bar codes.

    RFID - Australian Perspective

Well that is what they did in Canada as well. Initially it was said voluntary and then in 2 years it became manditory. Now they are talking of doing the same with the horses. Tags were another issue that was shoved down the throat. The metal clip tags that were the cheapest and stay in the ear...

    RFID - Australian Perspective

Canada looked at the austraillian system and created it similar. In time I can see it going that route as well. CCIA tags are now read by scanners in the auctions as well but when there is a off the ranch sale the bar codes are not all being transfered in a system anywhere. There is still...

Canada Group to Sue US Over M-COOL

I for one would not mind the COOL program if it implemented correctly. The timing is to quick to be implemented correctly in my opinion. Are the feedlots, packing house, breeders etc all set to keep records of sales, births, for each animal whether it is in the US and Canada? Ask yourself -...

    Half Mile of Hell

Yes there are two associations. And no you would not hear about the fine for it happens by the association not the show and they do not broadcast the fines in the news. It is all part of the chuckwagon circuit that there is an element of risk. A few years ago one guy was running his team and...

    Half Mile of Hell

True but according to the Chuckwagon association anytime a horse is hurt the causing drive pays a fine and if a horse dies they replace the horse with one of equal value (in the past they even let the driver go and pick a horse from the offending drivers own herd. What goes around comes around.

    Half Mile of Hell

Terrible that horses and driver were hurt. Kelly did not compete the last day and did not make the $100000 round. All the drivers are competitive and wrecks can happen. I have seen kelly loose horses as well in the race. I do not agree with the bias on the judges. The rules are clearly...

    Freeze Branding Horses

We freeze brand our horses. All we have had to do is put them between a fence and a gate or in stocks and brand them standing. The worst reaction we recieved was a nip from on mare. They tend to stand and take it quite well. Most reaction is due to the noise of the clippers if your horse is...
