    Help Me Understand.....

Everybody's got to stand a chance of making a profit. If the heavy calf brought the same per lb. as the lighter calf, there wouldn't be much chance left for the feeder, since you've already gotten a lot of the gain.

    Questions on Reducing Supplement Cost

Michele, I think regular extracted SBM runs around 44%. I don't have any experience with it, but there's also dehulled that is around 47-49%.

    bush hog spline replacement?

Yes, you can do it. I don't know anything about Howse equipment, but most mower gearboxes have a pretty similar design. If you need one, any hydraulic press will work fine. You likely have two bearings on the shaft- one under the gear and the one you can see from underneath. You can try to reuse...

    Calf ?

This is a not very scientific WAG, but with the dead smell and dropping temp after the high temp and infection, and the cold to the touch it almost sounds like some form of sepsis or blood poisoning. He's sure lasted a long time if that's what it is though. I would have expected him to have quit...

    Chevt truck prob

I'd agree with MPR. I'd try the filter. I had a '78 that did something like that when it was nearly new. It ran fine till you went up a steep hill or really got on the throttle, then it would lay down. The fuel filter had a bunch of little metal chips in it, they suspected from when the tank was...

    Pears

I used to work for an old boy that had a lot of pear and apple trees. He'd shovel the fruit up into a little wagon and haul them out to the cows all the time. Those cows would come like a fire engine when they heard that old wagon coming. They did real well on pasture and fruit. I will say...

Cost of boarding a calf & temperment of Jersys?

The way I see it,you've answered your own question. You don't really want to do it, and you don't think they will follow through on their end. Just tell them no. They might be mad, but they'll get over it. It will be easier to do now than putting up with the hassle of doing something you don't...

    E85 and Bio-Diesel

Don't worry, There's a whole bunch of people, government and non government, working on a way to implement it for you. If you don't own the water in your private household well casing free and clear, how could you own and be able to sell surface water? I'm not trying to start an argument here...

    will the torque change

This one is always good for an argument. It kind of makes sense in a way that you would lose some torque through a long extension, but most things I've read say as long as you stay at 90 degrees you don't. What really throws you a curve is using a crowfoot or some other offset on there.

    Trailer/truck floor beds

Happened right in front of me on the highway when I was in college. Load of fat cattle in an old gooseneck. Eight head went through. I stopped to help the guy. It was ugly, to say the least. They weren't his cattle and it wasn't his trailer. He was just helping out a neighbor. On top of the...

    Steer Stuffers

Old style? What do you mean,I remember most of that stuff! A steer stuffer is a self feeder for cattle. If you google Smidley Steer Stuffer you should see a factory made one, or look toward the top of the list on the link from above and you will see a home built one.

    Pocket Knife

Case Medium Stockman. I've carried Schrades and Bucks in the past too. The Case is my favorite. I've got Grandpa's and Great Grandpa's Case too. I look at them, but they don't get much carry anymore.
