Sorry it took so long to get back to you with an answer. I've been running two loads of calves west a week here lately and have been busy. The cattle I retained where fed locally here in Ohio. I wanted to see how they would grade so I kept back 18 head weaned at around 500#.10 where 1/2 brahma...
Chuckie, To supplement my ranch part of my business is hauling cattle up and down the road in a 99 379extended hood Peterbilt. I don't consider myself a truck driver though. I also shoe a few horses and do some day work for a couple of guys who run cattle on old coal mine strip ground. :cboy:
Craig and TB, I don't understand your why?. If its why move them miles it is because one pasture rotation is three miles down off the ridge, across the big creek and up the big hill to a mountaintop lease. :cboy:
:cboy: If I am moving my cattle very far my brahma crosses follow my horse well with an occasaional "here girl" thrown in. I have moved cattle for miles that way. I rotational graze some first year heifers and do it mostly on foot. I don't have a four wheeler on the place. I like peace and quiet...
I would like to see "real man"blackpower sort some of those old ringy desert bred brahma crosses on foot. Seen a New York farm boy try to check some during calving with a four wheeler. Old girl rolled him and the 4 wheeler. Broke up some of the plastic and broke some ribs. Took a "real man" on a...
Ford has my vote. I have two of them. 83 F350 4x4 6.9 diesel with 223000 miles on it. Gotta 94 F350 4x4 crew cab gas job running good with 173000 miles.
If you want one for meat a good 1/2 brahma- 1/2english breed(hereford, shorthorn, angus) will get you a steer that will put on the pounds and taste good, too. I had some I just sent and they all went choice or better grade. :cboy:
:stop: I haul cattle over the road in a 99 Peterbilt. Everywhere I go diesel is higher than gas. I have paid as little as 1.93 in MO. this week to 2.29 in OH. I just keep putting the extra cost on the rate but you can only do that until the house of cards fall!!!!! :(
:stop: Whoa there Texan. I'm from Ohio and I wouldn't trade my small herd of brahma-crosses for a Texas sized ranch of European cattle!!!p.s brahma cattle are only as wild as they are trained to be. I have no problems with mine. My three year old boy can ride around on a 3 year old charbray...
