Amen on the Alamac sign!! We always go by that. We weaned last week-end 4 bulls and 2 heifer calves. Bawled for 1 night and that was it. Moms didnt bawl either and their bags aren't real hard either. The sign needs to be in the knees and going down, dont let it go back up to the head before...

What is good a feed a calf that you are going to butcher for yourself? Should they be cut or left a bull? We butchered 1 but didnt cut him and feed sweet feed. The meat had a wang taste to it. Dont know if that is because of what we feed him or because he wasnt cut.

We have sold serveral of our heifers by listing them in http://www.cattletoday.com. Got lots of calls also. As far as price, I would ask straight across price. We sold some from $600 to $550 a head at weaning age. Even though they weighed all different weights and were different sizes. Sold...

We always call our cows by yelling "Come oooonnnn" "Come oooonnnn girls" serval times. We really draw out the "on" word. They usually will come a running. It is funny that they will not come for just anyone that says it. My husband and I can get them to come better than our kids.
