I normally have a box of crayons. But not so much this year. Out of 70 calves 56 are black or baldies, 9 are red or red baldies, and 5 are Char or char crosses. Hopefully the day they go to the sale there is a market for black hided calves. That few red and white calves will just get blended in with the blacks.

I once thought black cows on green grass were as pretty sight as you could see.
Now a uniform group of black calves going through a sale ring looks even better.
A little color does spice things up though.

I'm all black and black baldies calves . I'm not knocking variety ! It's strictly a dollars and cents decision on our part . We raise what brings the best at our local sales. I'm an old shorthorn guy , but got tired of taking a beating on my calves .

Our newest one. She is the only non-Hereford in our herd. She finally had a white heifer calf, so the calf gets to join her mom for the future.

I like herds of different colored cows and calves. IMO the Angus promoters have really done an unfortunate thing. All meat is red.

That's funny don't care who you are. Calves that could possibly be shown all get their mommas name on their tag. Momma is Big Booty Judy. If that little heifer ends up in the feedlot she will get a new tag and number.

Good morning Coachg. That little heifer is a mixed up mutt. She has some Shorthorn, Red Simmental, Red Angus, and Black Angus.
She is almost 3/4 angus. The bull is a registered red angus and her momma is a hot mess of a mutt.
