Bought five heifers in May and four have thrived while one grazes all the time , but doesn't gain weight and still has long winter coat in mid-August. She often stands in the water truth or in a pond. I have wormed them all.

Probably not sick, just a poor do'r. I seem to have one of those every year. This years is about 9 months old and weighs about 450 lbs. Most of the time they get a little better looking as they slowly grow but will never amount to much. I usually sell mine as a secondary type calf in the winter when the long hair doesn't stand out as much.

Bermuda grass with several other native grasses. Have had a few cows and calves here for over 30 years and never noticed a single one do that.

Possible she was fed more grain and has some founder? Non-shedding of coat could be a copper deficiency, or wormy.

Regardless, four of the five are doing well. One is not. All under the same conditions and opportunity. Whether it is cows, employees, investments or whatever - that one needs to go. Retain the good performers, not the bad ones.
