We have 2 4-H steers bout 12-13 months old. Weighing about 1180 right now. Had our club steer tour day today and was told that we wouldn't be able to show one of them in May because he has horns. They are flat oval and are bigger in diameter than they are long. You can grab them and move em around, they are not set in the head. We have shown at our State Fair in Oct, going to a beef expo show next weekend and haven't had any problems. Now gotta deal w this. We have about 70 days till our final 4-H show and auction. Any ideas on the quickest way to get rid of them would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Horns / scurs prevents showing?

What kind of club is THAT?

LOLOL!

Bunch of candyass city slicker wannabees.

Cut them out - spend the money - do it right and have your veterinarian do it. But only if you are determined to show.

I personally would tell them to eff off but that is me and not many are like me.

Cattle come with horns too - and they are not the massive danger that they are perceived by many to be - probably weakling leaders as well.

And then find another club - the people running this one are too limp-wristed - bet their leaders like pink underwear and latte as well.

Again, I agree. Although I would have went as far as to face whomever said that and tear them a new AH, but that's me and my temper. 4-H...BS. They obviously don't have any 4-H spirit in them.

Get the vet out, and have it done as neatly as possible. If you haven't shaved his head for the show yet, DON'T. Use the hair to cover up the wounds. If they have healed up enough by showtime, then shave his head if you wish.

And, as Bez said, when your done this year, find yourself another club. A 'REAL' 4-H club.

I really feel for you. Crap like this makes me boil.

Is it in the bylaws that they cannot be horned or scurred. Make them show you the rule!!!!!

Believe me I'm with you all on this. I was actually in this same club from 8-18 yo. Sht has changed so much it's unreal. Politically correctness and regulations over the top. I will check the rules tomm. The club came by when I wasn't home so I got relayed the message. We have the Commonwealth Beef Expo this weekend then end of May final show. Doesn't leave much time for major healing. What's the freezing option about? She's had this calf since June, if she can't show it in May it could get pretty physical

Well, Aaron gave you straight up good advice. Dovnot shane the head and have a veterinarian do the job - cosmetic surgery after all this time?

Who does not like you? Seems to me this could have been pointed out to you before this.

Best to you

be nice bez , I'm guessing you havn't gotten any in a while or god died & made you judge for everyone

Wrong on all counts my friend but I am afraid that I am not prepared to be nice just because they are 4H folks - been a mamber and a leader for many years - out of it now and perhaps it is a good thing as I am sure you will agree.

Cheers

Now Aaron - I simply refer you to this:

be nice bez , I'm guessing you havn't gotten any in a while or god died & made you judge for everyone

Just take out my call sign and insert your own. LOL

Cheers
