It's better for her to have a calf nursing as her own calf already was nursing. If the calf died at birth or never nursed, then it's a lower risk of udder problems after drying out. There was one occasion when cow had lost her calf at 2-3 days age. Her udder was closed at the next calving. Udder was full, but no milk coming out. Wouldn't want that to happen for such young cow too.Its always nice to have the same number of calves as cows. Last year I had 36 from 36 but the numbers got made up with a set of twins. A 2nd calver had a still born, $hit happens and something usually stuffs things up.

Yeah, it never gets easier to loose a calf. Fingers crossed that were will be no more lossIt sucks to lose a calf. So far this year I have lost four. I think the cow laid on one, and the other three were stillborn.

A bull calf had a rough start, but now he seems to be putting on weight and growing.
