I have one very dominant cow and one very permissive cow. If I put heat detector strips on them I'm concerned that the permissive one would never dare to mount the dominant one. If I had more cows I'm sure someone would but in this situation will the Heat detectors work?

I think it would work. When they are on heat most will be desperate to get something to shag them so I don't think the submissive (is that the word you meant) one would dare not jump the dominant one.

Well just a follow up. We have highlands, so I don't know that any of this translates to other breeds. With all that hair they certainly do not like warm weather. We tried and tried to do heat detection and saw NOTHING! As soon as the weather turned cold, the submissive one is hot to trot exactly on time each cycle with textbook signs. With the dominate one we still see nothing, but she is mean. We plan to cull her.
