Last summer I put our 9 acres of german millet. It was a good thick stand and growing well.
It cleared the boot and was getting ready to cut when I looked at it. I was 5 days finishing second cutting on another place. When I came back to mow there was nothing but stems. Not a head or blade to be found. I walked the field looking for any sign and found none. Has anyone had anything like this happen? I'm thinking it had to be a insect but to eat this much so quick someone would have seen a cloud of them I would think. Getting close to planting again and lokking for ideas.
Thanks

Army worms sure could have done that, they work fast. They can do a lot of damage before you know they're in the field.

I wasn't aware of the army worms but after looking them up and reading an article from VT (link posted below) it looks like what happened. Do you think the wet weather may have contributed to the infestation? I have never seen anything like it before.
Thanks for all the help and info
