I'm about to get back into the show circuit, and i'm excited :) its been too long since i've played with cattle and i've missed it. Next weekend i'll be heading out to a farm to break in some cattle for a breeder. Three heifers, a bull and some steers. I can't wait to see them. Should be a great show. Oh yeah for those following the other thread I decided to leave the heifer I was going to feed and show this year, i'll be plenty busy with these other calves, but i'll persist with next years steers. As for these calves next weekend, i'll post some pics when I get them, and keep you updated :) NOTHING LIKE SHOW SEASON WOO!

Yep you are right about that! I miss my cows :) I got to the farm yesterday (three hour drive) and just breathed in cow smell, it was fantastic. So I started working with the three heifers and the bull yesterday. Literally nothing had been done with them, we pulled them out of their paddocks and I got to work. By the end of the day I had two heifers leading, and today hopefully i'll get the other heifer and the bull leading. They are all between 12 and 18 months, big cattle, so you need to approach it a certain way. I like to be slow and gentle and quiet but at the same time I don't have the time to tame them properly before haltering. But they are doing well. I'm asking a lot of them and they are responding marvellously. They are quiet, except the bull is very scared because about a month ago he bloated and went in the crush to have a hole stabbed in him. He's a lovely type, about a year old, a long, tall stretchy bull. Very correct, showing good muscle and masculinity for his age. The youngest heifer was the friendliest and the hardest to break, she just sulked on the rope, didn't really fight it so didn't understand pull and release when it came time to walk her. She's a moderate framed heifer, very solid and correct and feminine with lots of depth. The other two heifers are a bit different type, tall, long, stretchy and powerful. I'll get some photos today if I can

Yep murray grey. I've got some pics but will probably be a few days before I get them up. Got the two chocolate heifers properly broke. The bull and silver heifer weren't quite ready to lead, and I didn't want to drive three hours home in the dark so i'll be back in two weeks time to finish them. They really are very good cattle. Even with the two I didn't finish, i'm really pleased with their progress. They've stopped fighting the rope, the bull isn't terrified anymore, I brushed him all over, and the heifer as well. So they are getting there :) i'm so grateful for the opportunity to work with cattle of such high quality, from a really respected breeder. I may break a couple of steers next time i'm there too.
