I'm 45 years old & have a cousin that's 48. He became constipated & had to have a colonoscopy done. Couldn't do the colonoscopy because he had a tumor too large. Has stage 4 colon cancer. He called me immediately after finding out & encouraged me to have it done.
Did it last week & had two precancerous polyps cut off So I'm encouraging everyone that hasn't had it done to get it done. In case you've thought about but think that it's a bad procedure....it's not. Nothing to it. Can't enjoy your cows & farm if you're not around , so get it done.

He's taking treatments & hoping for the best for him but will take more than treatments, I'm afraid...lots of prayers.

Haven't had to do it yet (57). Doc said if my poop test comes back clear I can avoid it a little longer.

I just get a box in the mail with a bunch of stuff in it, bottles, liquid solutions, papers, etc. I just take everything out of the box.....poop in the box, seal it up and send it with the return label. :cboy:

Prayers up.

Prayers for cuz appreciated.
Pooping in a box does sound more cost effective.
My insurance pays for free screenings as long as no polyps cut off or anything else that's not routine screening done so the drawback is the nice bill i anticipate in getting. Even with it, it's money well spent but sure will not be fun stroking that check, lol.

Got one scheduled for April 14. Had 5 done between 2010 and 2015. Problem every time. Removed a foot of the colon in 2013. Tore colon apart in a week. Next surgery was to install a colostomy bag. 9 months later another surgery to get it all repaired.
Take good care of yourself. I didn't and almost died. Still getting hernias from all the surgery scars. Had one surgery to repair one of those. Passed a blood clot and clogged my heart. Massive heart attack and died in the recovery room. Got a other one now.

I remember you having that and seemed everything happening. My mother had some of her colon removed and still has problems from it. She had surgery and they nipped her colon during surgery. Nine days after getting home she was in awful pain as the part of the colon they nipped died. ALl night in the ER doing X-rays and they finally found the problem. They were just ready to send her home basically to die and the ER doctor found the problem.

I had a colonoscopy in 2014 and the doc said to come back in 10 years, thank goodness. A few years ago a doctor told me to drink Metamucil daily for the fiber and I have done so.

My cousin had one done after a bleeding episode three years ago when she was 37, all came back clear, she also had an endoscopy. She recently had another bleeding episode so another colonoscopy that was also clear. So she then swallowed one of those cameras and turns out the colonoscopy was three inches short of seeing the problem. She had a tumor removed last week and now we wait to see if this oversight is going to cost her life. She is one of my closest cousins so pretty nervous at this point and understand how Col Reb must be feeling. Sadly she lost her sister to uterine cancer only a few months ago.

You have certainly had a rough trot. I remember once you were saying you need to find the right heart specialist, you called him a heart electrician. What is this specialist called again? I think my dad needs one.

Redgully, I can't remember what it was called and never seen him. All checked out ok last year with the heart except I had 70% blockage in 2 areas. I freaked out but they said it wasn't anything to worry about. Still have some issues from it. Must be getting old and worthless

The actual procedure is a breeze, it's the prep that will make you see Jesus! Last time Hubby was scheduled for a colonoscopy the hospital called at 7:30 the night before, just as he finished his last glass of liquid he!!. For some reason the emergency sprinkler system had gone off and the room(s) were contaminated; they had to cancel the procedure and wanted to reschedule - right then & there. Are you kidding me?!?! So two weeks later he had to do it all over again.

I agree with TC. The prep is much worse than the procedure. Every wellness checkup they give me a package with a card and a stick. I have to smear a little from each end of the stool onto the card and drop it off to them. Glad you brought this up because it's almost time for my third procedure.

This test you are taking only measures blood in the feces. If the precancerous polyps are not bleeding you will never know. Once they are bleeding they are cancerous.

Yeah, I thought I'd be hungry from not eating for 24 hrs so scheduled it at 7:30. Didn't know I had to take a second dose 4 hrs before. 3:30 in the morning doing a colon cleaning isn't fun. The funny thing is I never was that hungry for 24hrs.
