barrels for mineral feeders--Dun

I use a U bolt to spread the weight of the barrel an minerls over more surface area. The picture shows it pretty well. Any ohter ? just ask

Why would you? It doesn;t usually get much of any water in it

I used my jig-saw and it went through like it was butter, took about 30 seconds. I left the bottom about 11 inches deep and the hole or square is 16 inches wide and 16 inches tall. Do I need to go a little taller? If it's too wide then it's just too bad as I can't get it less wider.

As others have stated, the hole needs to be taller. Also in general practice it is alway good to cut a radius at the corners instead of a square corner which is a stress riser that can lead to a crack beginning. If the hole is already cut with square corners; you can take a round file or a drill and create a radius. With regard to the fly flips; your local TN Farmers Co-op is an excellent place to buy. There's usually one in every TN county.
