    Flies are bad

We had some huge fly issues here, I was spraying every four days and losing the war. Last week I de-wormed two cows, gone, flys are done.

    Spent grain ?

Wet and grows mold like crazy. I used to get it for free, about 3 tons a week, problem was I had to feed it out in a week to take the tubs back to the brewery (small) and get newly filled ones. Had to feed the stuff year round, but crazy to complain about free feed. And your right about the...

    Spent grain ?

I used to get it and after about a week, the cattle love the stuff. The product has no fat or carbs, just fiber and protein. I used to mix in cracked corn and I’ve been looking for a new source.

    Bred heifers starting to calve!

Coleman has some Resource embryos available and I’m thinking I just might....I really like those cattle.

    New purchase

To each their own, personally I wouldn’t ever buy a heifer based on ww or yw, only phenotype. I can breed to numbers. A lot of folks do buy according to the epd’s.

SAV America has a long way to go

Thank you James, but I will probably have a monumental disaster that only I can appreciate. Most likely I’m going to end up with 1000 straws of semen in my tank belonging to 998 sires and have 5 cows to use those on.

SAV America has a long way to go

In this case I don’t think it’s America, it’s you. James you garner a lot of interest, whether good or negative. A lot of it is driven by you. We do have a thread on Cowboy Up going right now and it’s been well posted on and if you posted your two cents, 8 posters are going to go on there to...

SAV America has a long way to go

Branded: I applaud you for finally giving the scoop on where you're heading. Sounds like you're heading the same direction I am, except we don't sex semen and will probably never do embryos. My plan is to breed really good cows and if I run into selling a decent bull, so be it. But as a...

    Blast away

Give him a year to make a decision. You’ve got cattle, you know today you see one and you think, he looks amazing, two weeks later another appears to be surpassing him and then a month later you’re back to the first one. And at three months you cant really see all of the flaws he will develop...

SAV America has a long way to go

And that’s why it’s in the eye of the beholder. I prefer Renown, Resource and Recharge to Charlo. I’m not knocking Rainmaker, eventually I will use Rainfall down the road. Eventually I’m :? taking a similar journey, minus Charlo and getting 707. Not begrudging anyone for using America or...

SAV America has a long way to go

Couldn’t you just use Supercharger to get the same thing done at a far lower price? I ask that, because that is the route I’m taking and personally I would rather have Recharge in the pedigree than Charlo.

    Fall Bulls. 10 months old.

Nutrition is tough to get a handle on, what is an albatross for one farm, works great for another. Your native grass will have advantages, where mine has disadvantages and vice a verse. I’m like you trying to figure out what exactly works the best, it appears keeping mine around 2% fat, 14%...

Choice of direction- good or bad

There are some really nice Red Angus sires available. I once had a red angus cow (commercial) who was a great mother and threw a black calf (bred to a black) every single year. She was a money maker. It seems to me Reds are a lot easier on the feed, it could of just been her.

    SAV President 6847 daughters

James; you’re not following his train of thought, he’s suggesting the tilt of the pins may cause a high tail head, has nothing to do with fertility. I don’t think she has a high tail head or tilted pins, I’ve seen really bad and to me she doesn’t show this to be an issue. But if he sees it...

    SAV President 6847 daughters

You made me look again, but I don’t see that. She seems to be a bit shallow in the rear quarter, but as she develops that could change. I’m betting her pedigree is saying, don’t move on. If I were raising show cattle and every cow has to hit certain criteria minor flaws might mean something...

    SAV President 6847 daughters

Bull of choice depends on what your end game is. I look not just at the bull I’m going to use, but what will I do if I get a keeper heifer. Do I have a mating for Treasure that I like? And I also want to know does Treasure have things I like about him or his dam or sisters that would imprint...

    2019 Florida Bull Test

I always have kind of thought of bull tests like cattle shows. Some people do them and do very well, but it's an outlier of the industry. And it puts an emphasis on terminal, which is starting to become a four letter word. The only bull of note I can remember coming from test was BR Midland...
