Are composite bulls such Simangus,Balancers,Limflex, or Braunangus used on heifers much in small one bull cow herds where heifers are retained and the same bull has to used on heifers and cows?

I have a cow that is 8 years old and had a retained placenta this summer after she calved. This cow has been a good cow and I am well below stocking rate and I cannot afford to buy or gamble on replacement heifers. If she bred back in a timely manner, would you consider keeping her for another year?

IMHO, there's only four breeds of cattle that are relevant and proven to me. Those four breeds are Hereford,Angus,Brahman, and Charolais. I might would add Shorthorn via Gerts or Beefmaster.
