    Ornery bull

Back in the late 70's (?) there was a mass killing of elephants in a specific area. Especially the largest, most mature bulls were killed off. As a result a lot of young bull calves grew up unrestrained. They started exhibiting some really aberrant behaviors. Killing rhinos, destroying fences...

    Names of Cross Breds

Yeah, there are definitely throwbacks to the wild aurochs. I've seen some that got raised with others, the others docile enough to scratch their neck... and the wild one would do it's best to be in the next county and if cornered they would turn on you with blood in their eye.

    Names of Cross Breds

Had a 1600 pound Char that could clear a five foot fence from a standing start and never drag a nipple... and a Gert that could tiptoe through a cattle guard like a ballerina. A cross like that would be called a Houdini...

    Calving 2024

I'm very tough on reasons I would cull animals... but a healed broken leg without any obvious disability would not be on my list.

My scenario, goes back to my Bulls thread

So @cowwrangler, you opened up a can of worms and we'd like an update.

    Angus and what?

LOL... If there is one thing I've seen from your posts... it is that there is no cow in the world that you wouldn't kick out of your pastures. What is the average time you own an animal? And I'm no example of long term ownership either.

My scenario, goes back to my Bulls thread

If a bull showed up at my door without me being involved in selecting him... he wouldn't be unloaded unless and until I had a chance to scrutinize what was being presented. Papers and animal... Especially after statements made that never proved out and the entire deal screwed up. It's very...

    When buying registered cattle

If you are paying a premium for registered cattle, then you shouldn't be paying anything at all until you have both cattle and papers in hand.

    New generation

Have you ever had any interest in trying to influence the sex of your calves through dietary changes before breeding?

    Angus and what?

Might be Corriente crosses. If they are they might not get a lot bigger.

My scenario, goes back to my Bulls thread

And that's all well and good... and I'm sure we all hope the claim and the result are well intentioned... but without KNOWing anything other than the story, we also know human nature and the odds... and have legitimate reasons to be suspicious.

My scenario, goes back to my Bulls thread

I bet they sold the bull you wanted to buy out from under you.

Fantastic looking animals. I'm properly impressed.

    Bulls

Somebody is getting shafted... and it ain't the cows. That's crazy high. That's prices I would only expect from a small animal vet.

    Big dream coming true

It says something about your area and concerns over calving ease compared to here in the US. You are calving 100 pound plus calves without assistance... and here many of our cows are incapable of birthing anything over 70 pounds without being pulled it seems. Personally, I believe you have much...

    New generation

I had a calf that went 825 at 7 months back in the mid 1980s and at that time when I told people they looked at me like I was fibbing. Times have changed...

1100 pounds at 7 months??? That would be a monster.

Beautiful calf... I'd never heard of the breed so had to look them up. Fine animals...

    The End of EPDs?

You musta had the right cow. That's about as cool as it gets. Congrats.

    The End of EPDs?

I did NOT say I didn't use EPDs... It's not like I go out into a bull selection only using my eye. But I do use my eye first... and weed the bulls out by eye first. The people buying my steers aren't looking at their EPDs. They are using their eyes. If a calf doesn't have eye appeal it gets...
