    Dehorning questions

If you cut them off there is a vein that usually spurts blood, and you can use a needle nose pliers to go down into it and get ahold, and stretch it out until it breaks down inside. That solves the problem of most of the bleeding. There will still be seepage but not like an arterial gusher...

    Jordan Valley Big Loop

I went to something like this in Reno several years ago. It was more educational than the usual. And the crowd was more rural oriented with a lot of friendly people. And like you said, the vendors were more oriented to useful ranch items instead of glitter for urban people.

    KY banning hunting of hogs

So what we really need is a sow with her tubes tied so she will be in heat on the regular... and lead the boars in. And the big pen would probably make them feel less trapped.

    KY banning hunting of hogs

I've been told salt can kill pigs. Not sure how that would work, but from what I understand pigs don't have sweat glands so that may have something to do with it.

    KY banning hunting of hogs

Well if one worked... how many would make a dent? I'm not sayin' it's a good idea... but considering the situation are there any bad ideas if they haven't been tried? It's not like I'm suggesting holding a red hot poker over an open container of gas...

    KY banning hunting of hogs

Even if given "treats" and released? I'd like to try it. With a spayed sow, if it didn't work at least you aren't increasing the population.

    KY banning hunting of hogs

Has anyone ever trapped some hogs, sorted out the leader and spayed her, and then turned her out to become a "Judas" to lead others into traps? Turn the leader out before killing the rest of the trapped pigs and they would think they are just coming in to get a good feed? Might be fun to...

    KY banning hunting of hogs

I had a sow with piglets and one disappeared. I found him dead maybe a 150 feet from the pen in some tall grass, his sides raked open in long slices from his belly to above the midpoint on his sides. We had a tall snag out back across the creek and midway up the hill where eagles would roost. I...

    Daily Chuckle

LOL... then I guess you are in the camp that would suck deep on your coffin nail as you scatter kitty litter in the rising fumes. On the other hand... I never got burned by an over abundance of caution.

Fuel spill at pump #5... No worries, Angela has it under control. This thread seems to be having issues. @Marie Try posting something to it. The only way I could post was to reply to a former post... and then it came up on my own former post.

I could read it differently, because the way it's worded could be read two different ways. And it makes a huge difference. And what does "mostly true" mean?

This is why I don't milk cows. If they are trouble they are down the road. It's just like with dogs... there are worthwhile animals being put down every day for lack of a good home, so why put up with animals that go out of their way to be trouble...

    KY banning hunting of hogs

I would think the leaders would be the most prolific breeders... so shooting them or the ones in the back is six of one and a half dozen of the other. Sooner or later some toddler is going to get eaten and then there will be a culture war over whether the pigs need to be killed out or whether...

We were talking about that today with visitors. They said the border videos of people crossing are inflated, that there aren't near the numbers that the news would have us believe. And I've seen similar stuff driving through places where the news has said is a disaster zone... and really don't...

    Mornign chore

I never had much trouble with them. In Arkansas I couldn't do it because of the chiggers. And I could walk to the mailbox and come back with a hundred seed ticks on me... but in SD we just didn't have a lot of bugs.

    Mornign chore

This is where I would take a book out with me and find a nice spot to commune with the world. And if the cows were around they learned to come park their calves next to me. I really enjoyed that...
