    Disappointing butcher yield

We used to butcher our own as kids. I remember just between my brother and I we varied when it came to cutting up the meat. I would trim close and take forever to trim out the gristle and toss out the excess fat, my brother always had more meat but when Mom went to open a package of meat she...

    No wonder we've been dry

This past year was a challenge. Wet spring lost calves due to mud and rain. Lost almost all of my yearlings due to botulism. Sold almost half of my cows this fall due to lack of quality hay and none available for purchase in the area. This year has to be better.

    Grazing Management Webinar!

I find myself in a situation where cull cow prices are so low that to reduce my numbers i'm forced to sell at a substantial loss. This is the first step in improving grassland production, reduce your numbers to the point that you can increase them later.

Chris Stlelzer was the name of the guy who hosted it and put "all" the information together.

    how late for k-31

Here in Southern Indiana we were in a drought up until 2 1/2 weeks ago I planted 5 acres with an old Massey 33 drill in disked soild got a great stand now about an inch tall. I'll see if it survives, it would have done no good in the bag.

    Grazing Management Webinar!

I sat last night and watched this man's webinar, You would have believed he reinvented the wheel. When it was finished I felt like he was trying to get his audience to cover his lost income while he screwed off doing internships around the world. He doesn't have anything that isn't available at...

    Success with synchronization

I've never had that good of success before. Things that were different this time were the heifers were almost excellent physical condition, they were slightly older (I held them back to work towards fall calving), and the weather was perfect they were under no stress.

    Success with synchronization

Pregnacy checked a group of 14 heifers that I synched with a single shop of Lutalyse. I had them in a lot next to the house to observe for heats and bred 5 prior to the timed AI time. At 55 days checked with a pregscan ultrasound and 13 were pregnant.I did put in a cleanup bull 14 days later and...

    gelbvieh homo polled fullblood embryo's

I breed fullblood and purebred Gelbvieh and have thought about doing some embryo implants but with the low cattle prices we have seen this year it is out of the question. There is a former fullblood breeder here in Southern Indiana that has quite a few fullblood embryos that he never implanted...

    What was your first tractor?

My first tractor was a 1963 Massey Ferguson Super 90, I bought it in 1976. I went to get it in Ohio with my Mom as I was driving with a learners permit.

Hydraulic drive hay-bine. Any one run one?

I saw your post on the 499 and was wondering how it turned out for you. The 499 haybines have been turning up often for sale and some of them are in pretty good shape. I bought one that i used last year but it had problems in thick hay and I have been wanting to have the pump checked but haven't...

I don't know which kind it is but I own a New Holland 514 and have never had a problem with the chain in it and I have owned it 10 years.

    Fall tomatoes

We had our first killing frost last weekend and our plants came back and bore again plus we had volunteer tomatoes come up in late summer that I would pick when I went to feed the cattle. The frost was very late this year for us though.

    Where'd the money go?

I see this BS every day. Just got the electrical job on a 30 apartment building to house the homeless. I wondered what was wrong with a homeless shelter.

    First Blizzard Here

My wife and I just came in from sitting in the porch swing, a pleasant evening in the 60's they say it won't get out of the 40's tomorrow so we just enjoyed it.
