Stumbled onto this thread. Here's my current herd sire. He's 5 this year. Still gets along good and bred all the cows first go around. He's a SAV Resource son. I'm hoping to keep him around at least another year.

This would indicate a shortage of choice grade cattle?? I assume this is due to cattle being marketing at younger age/lighter weight so that the feeder can minimize...
Anyone have calves? Thinking about breeding some resource granddaughter heifers to him next spring. Just curious what people were getting for calves.
Thanks
I know there is going to be a lot of short eared calves that come to town this fall. Buyers usually want them $5/cwt under going market. I have been told that's because those calves could have foot issues from freezing that don't show up until they're fat cattle. Any truth to this or just...
Does anyone have any experience with a barn camera that can work through the cellular network? Have electricity at the barn, but no phone/internet. Would like to have one in the barn for calving as the barn is about 10 miles from home. Thanks in advance for any advice.
I've got a daughter and she doesn't look like much, but she's got a nice big discovery bull on her that'll probably keep and use on 1st and 2nd heifers.
I have a 6 month old heifer calf that is in heat. She is still on her mom and the herd bull is still running with them. He's a 4 year old bull. I'm just worried he might hurt if he tries to mount. So far she won't let him. I always shoot all the heifers with lute in the fall when I work them so...
I've charged $750 for a leftover yearling in the past. The guy kind of thought that was high though. The way I figure it, part of what you're paying for is the bull, the other part is for him to leave when you're done with him.
Had a yearling bull end up breeding his paternal sibling this spring. I know this has been done before successfully, and I don't know of any genetic defects, so should I be worried? Also had a sire breed a daughter of his who was supposed to bred to a different bull. Again, no known defects...
Recently had some grass hay made. Just out of curiosity I stuck a compost thermometer into a few bales. Some were at 120. A couple were at 140. How hot is too hot? The hay laid for a couple days but baling and seemed dry.
Bull had infection (puss) in ejaculate when examined for BSE. Thinking he should probably not be a herd bull, looks like just asking for problems down the road.
I have an Angus bull that measured 48cm scrotal as a yearling. I'm aware this an extremely high number and I am wondering if this could indicate a problem or future problem?
