What is a 5 weight? What is a 6 weight?

Its a term representing small stocker cattle. I don't know if there is an official minimum, but around here flyweights are less than 400 pounds, usually something like a 300-350 pound calf, but I know some that are getting 250 pound flyweights.

What is a 5 weight? What is a 6 weight?

Here they seem to run about 50-90 more per hundred weight.

    Anyone use a buyers card?

More of a question of whether or not you have any prices written down when y9ou go to a sale to help guide your purchases, or whether you just wing it.

Wondering who uses a buyers card? Do you have one you can find online or do you make your own?

What is a 5 weight? What is a 6 weight?

I get shrinkage, but still question calling a 599 pound calf a 5 weight.

What is a 5 weight? What is a 6 weight?

Is no one else bothered that a 600 pound takes a dump just before going over the scales and it went from being a 6 weight to a 5 weight? Of course, we don't have 599 pound steers. The scales either show 595 or 600.

I priced some lime from the same company but a different county this year. She told me there was a minimum of 24 tons to...

What is a 5 weight? What is a 6 weight?

WAIT. Before you answer, I know what the term 5 weight and 6 weight means. Here's what I'm asking. What weight do YOU call a 5 weight steer, and what weight do YOU call a 6 weight steer? Do you call a calf that weighs 550 or higher a 5 weight, or do you differentiate with your terminology?

    Rank coat color (sales)

So I'm wanting to get some updated information for my large animal science class. I used to have a report that showed how much discount each coat color received vs black (if someone has that, I would appreciate a link). But that report was several years back and was not regional. So if you...

You don't see this much in England anymore

Awesome to see cattle moves like that. It's still done a bit around here, but more on dirt roads. However, I saw a picture about a month back in the neighboring county where the police stopped traffic so a farmer could move cattle from pastures on one side of the road to pastures on the other. I...
