    Another horiffic day in NC!

It does. I have never done it because I do not have a problem with it but I know of companies that have permits that do it for their power plants, etc., as they nest on the towers. You can apply for a special permit now that you've lost one. Take pictures of the birds and dead cow. It will...

    Should I buy ?

I probably wouldn't if you have a decent farm around you. I usually let people borrow my herd sire for a little handy work. It's hard to justify a herd sire with that few cattle unless you find a really good price. Even then I can't see it.

    Cross fencing a pond?

Yeah, that would be a good idea. Your pond is much larger than I anticipated. We do not have one that large that the cattle have access to. I think that would be work. I think the only thing you would have to know, and I'm sure you do, is how quickly it drops off and make sure you avoid any...

    Crazy hiefer calf

This isn't that irregular. Most cows that I buy at the sale barn take several days to settle in. Heck, the most expensive females I ever bought took a full six month to really join the rest of the herd.

    Cross fencing a pond?

That's way deeper than I anticipated. What would you say the diameter is in the middle?

    Lost one

I don't know how they are in Texas but studies have shown that the ones here run away from one hanging dead. All of the powerplants have special permits to kill several and you see them hanging everywhere but you don't see any coming onto that property either.

    Cross fencing a pond?

How deep is your pond? You have a lot of options. Some will last longer than others.

    Starting my herd

Make sure you have good fencing! Good luck! And always post here with questions. There are always good people on here willing to help out.

    Lost one

The biggest problem I have with these is that you generally don't get a permit until you've lost one. Well thanks a lot!!! It also has to be well documented and you have to do a lot of paperwork. An animal is not endangered when I see 100's of them when I drive 90 miles east. Sorry, they're...

    Buzzards killing mature cows

Theoretically the problem with that here is that coyotes eat everything on the ground.

    Buzzards killing mature cows

They used to not be in my area and I have seen a lot more of them. I talked to someone that runs an energy company and they kill a few each year with a special permit and leave them hanging on wires. It apparently keeps the others away. I am deeply concerned that fish and wildlife is...

    Buzzards killing mature cows

I was driving down the Western Kentucky Parkway yesterday and saw a large group attacking a calf. There had to be 40 of them. I figured out who's farm it was and gave them a call but it was crazy. I never thought I'd see anything like it.

Lost a cow and calf last night

Well, I am posting this on here just to reminder people that cows are animals and stuff happens. Had a ten year old pregnant cow for which everything seemed fine with her. I've been using her as a recip and knew she was due any day. I've had the flu pretty bad but checked her before I went to...

    Buzzards killing mature cows

I've seen the blackheads kill calves but I've never seen them kill mature cows. They are ultra-aggressive. You can get permits to shoot them. I have never had an issue with them (knock on wood) but I know people that have. I think you can apply for a special permit through Kentucky Farm...

What does it mean exactly if someone is only selling half interest in a bull?

Buying one with half-interest varies on if you are buying it with possession or not or an arrangement between the two.

    Protein Tubs

I'm not the best deer hunter in the world but I feel like I'm pretty good at both managing a herd and selectively shooting. I've shot over five bucks in above the 150's. The et to drawing deer in is options in my opinion. Unshucked corn draws in does. Bucks will eventually start moving on...

    Protein Tubs

We use them year around because why not other than price. Our cows don't use them a ton as we have plenty of other sources of good we use but I view it as another tool should they want it. Also, the deer like them and admittedly I hunt a lot.

    Cattle Land 50 acres

I think it all depends on your budget and goals. If you are going to just do it as a hobby, I would suggest just getting a manual chute through a used auction. There are all kinds of websites that sell that stuff. If you are going to start running a bunch and expanding, you many want a...

    Cattle Land 50 acres

Make sure you have a good chute. At some point you are going to need to work those cattle and it is tough without a chute.

    Major birthing trouble

It's a great point Ky Hills. If you haven't had a regret at some point you probably haven't worked with cattle much or you're just the luckiest person on earth.
