You're welcome. I wouldn't hesitate to consult with a local vet as well. Taking temp on incoming calves has been a valuable troubleshooting tool for me too. What area are you from?
I don't give draxxin to cows I buy either. Cuts down on repulls and death loss on lightweight calves for me. That's why I would recommend it to someone starting out. Mass treatment protocol is an age old debate on stockers.
Some let them settle a week then work and temp them all. Give hot ones a shot of draxxin. Zactran will be a bit cheaper for mass treatment. CTC in feed will knock the coughing out, these radical temperature fluctuations have caused some trouble with that.
Got a case of mastitis in a non lactating feeder heifer. Took to vet, he recommended a few rounds of la200 therapy. Given a couple rounds of la200 with mixed results, getting tired of running her through chute every couple days. What works on this?
I used to like the generic ivermectin til I had a fecal sample done on some calves. 60 days after shot they had 2-3 times the worm load they could handle. Vet recommended cydectin injectable for short term and long range for long term.
