    Summer weather predictions

We've had just enough to keep us out of the field since Monday. April was pretty dry but just a little too wet and cold to plant. Pastures are finally looking good. It seems fescue prefers an excess of moisture in the early spring, which we didn't have. Catalpa trees are in full bloom, which...

A big shout out to my Amish neighbors

An Amish crew built us a pole barn last fall and have a house under construction currently. I priced the same building with Cleary, it was literally double the price quoted and paid to the Amish builder. They don't mess around either, they get a lot done when they're on site. Also, they do it...

    Summer weather predictions

Too much of a good thing, that's very unfortunate. Around here, you never hear of houses getting flooded. Everyone moved out of the bottoms and the flood plains decades ago. As for summer weather predictions, the blackberries are blooming here, which is a good 2-3 weeks earlier than normal...

Good Morning, time to round up the livestock.

I've always heard of something difficult referred to as being like herding geese, you can't drive them, apparently you have to lead them. This boy has a bright future!

    Mountaintown Creek Ranch

All is well at the ranch. Keith said he’s been busy building corrals and such, and thanks for checking in.

    Mountaintown Creek Ranch

I’ve been wondering the same. I have his number. I’ll see if I can reach him.

We've done that for years, both cured and uncured. Fresh side, nothing beats it.

    Red Wattle Pigs

We had some York boars that could jump like deer, couldn't have anything in a mile you didn't want bred.

    Red Wattle Pigs

We ran hundreds of hogs behind a hot wire. They respect it, but they're smart and there's always one that'll test it every day or two. If one knows it's down, they all know it seems. Ring them to cut down on the rooting, but it's nearly impossible to stop it completely. You have hogs...

    When it is below zero.............

I have a heat pump with 92% efficient gas backup plus a ventless as pictured above for emergency outages, furnace goes down, etc. gas furnace kicks on around 30 degrees. Heat pump is more efficient over that, gas more under. My brother is a carrier tech with 25 plus years experience, he’s my...

I prefer the blue flame myself.

    When it is below zero.............

I hauled propane for six years, so I’m a worst case kind of guy when it comes to heating. 91452 btu per gallon of propane, with 100 gallons of lp this heater would run nonstop over 12 days. In reality it would probably only run 1/2 the time so you can double that. Pretty cheap insurance.

    When it is below zero.............

I wouldn’t be caught dead without something like this in the house. No power needed, will keep an average home in comfortable heat. Cheap. I tell people, if you have to use it one time in your life due to a power outage, it’s paid for itself. Plus it will knock the edge off that huge electric...

    Winter boots

I can't get LaCrosse on, too tight in the instep. I have some Ridgecut boots from TSC, don't hold up any better than Mucks but are around $75-85, I can justify that a little better.
