    bent knees

Thanks. I took the rectal temp again an hour ago. It was 101.7 two days ago and again today.

    bent knees

He is a reasonable sized calf, not overly large and not growing especially fast. Thanks

    bent knees

Checked with my seed supplier who comes out to my house -- only lupine around here (south central Texas) is Bluebonnets, and the cows do not have access to them.

    Buck Knees

Thanks. I've palpated and squeezed the knee joints three or four times now. No extra fluid in joint that I can palpate, no pain on squeezing it or on extreme flexion, no swelling that I can find. I had another calf in the pen and palpated his knees too, in order to compare them to this one's...

    Buck Knees

See the attached photograph. The calf stands with the knees slightly flexed forward. It can stand normally and can run and play. It seems otherwise normal. It is not contracted flexor tendons. There is no pain in the knees that I can detect, even when I fully flex the knees. No evidence of...

    Buck Knees

I realize that you posted this ages ago. If by chance you are still monitoring this board, may I ask what happened to your calves with buck knees? I have one and am not sure what to do. Thanks

    bent knees

No lupine that I know of. But, I'll look it up to see what it looks like and go back and check. I do have some Wooly Pod Vetch (Lana). But, from what I have read, Wooly Pod Vetch intoxication is usually fatal to the cows. I've only let me cows on the pasture with the Vetch for about 10 days...

    bent knees

Thanks. Naval is normal -- no signs of disease. Mothers have access to Purina Wind and Rain High Mag, but I cannot promise you that this cow is partaking.

    bent knees

I would appreciate any wisdom from out there. I've attached one photo and will try to attach a video. This is a 9 day old calf. Was normal as far as I can tell until about 3 or 4 days ago. Suddenly it stands with its front knees bent. I promise you the calf does not have contracted flexor...

    trauma?

No buzzards were around. Maybe it got kicked. I'm glad that nobody has ever seen something like this be congenital. Thanks everybody for the thoughts.

    trauma?

I was thinking that whatever caused the hole caused the eye.

    trauma?

The calf was born in a pasture (I really wish I could have them born in a protected barn -- maybe someday). It could not stand even with assistance when I found it, so I'm pretty sure that it was born near to where I found it. I gave it colostrum and carried it to the barn as soon as I found...

    trauma?

I would appreciate any wisdom that anyone can offer. Attached is a photo of a 6-10 hour old calf (not sure as it was born at night and I found it the next morning). You can see the wound in the head. This is a hole into the frontal sinus. There is no clotted blood or dirt or debris around...
